This morning we baked, we used this delicious recipe by the lovely and
very creative Cathie over at m.e.
These tasty little muffins have become our favourite...we only add 1/2 a cup of brown sugar and today we added a handful of sultana's and for a bit of fun we sprinkled pepita's onto the top of the mini muffins {this become a fun counting activity} 1 pepita, 2 pepita's, 3 pepita's ... also gave my little one a job to do while I  spooned the mixture into the cases {apart from trying to lick the spoon}!
The carrot and zucchini looks fresh and these mini muffins are a healthy way of getting vegetables into little ones...even at morning tea!

..happy baking..
&
...eating...

Trick or Treat

Great excitement with our first Trick or Treat adventure!  Miss Sienna's two missing front teeth helped make her look more authentic - Sofia on the other hand was a pretty cute witch - such great fun was had by the entire neighbourhood before a thunderstorm soon put a halt to the festivities.  Not to worry plenty of loot was collected along the way!

DIY Fabric Notice Board!

Here's a little something I whipped up over the weekend... a fabric noticeboard! It was super easy to do; the hardest part was negotiating Spotlight for the materials with a baby strapped to my front and a toddler on the loose intent on stealing glow-in-the-dark pink wigs!

I've wanted to make a fabric board for ages; its just the spot to display party invitations, bills, vouchers, cards, shopping lists and so on and on!

You can use a corkboard for this project, but I chose an inexpensive art canvas instead as the whole thing is covered in wadding anyway. I bought a metre of fabric, 6m of ribbon (I ended up needing 20cm more and had to make a trip back - doh!) and a bag of wadding.

Basically, you just stretch the wadding and fabric over the canvas and staple it into place on the back, folding the corners as you would do a Christmas pressie. Then, starting at each horizontal you stretch and staple the ribbon on the back of the canvas. I have often seen these boards with a button or pin stuck onto each ribbon junction which holds the ribbons firmly in place, but I didn't bother. I like mine just the way is! There are plenty of more elaborate tutorials out there if you are interested in making one, like this one. And wouldn't it make a fabulous gift? Now I've made one, I want to make lots and give them away!

I showed my creation to my husband and his comment was... "it's very bright?!"

Is it too bright?

Have a lovely week... do visit back, I have lots going on that I want to share!!

Happy Halloween!

I received another award!
But first, a picture of my niece.
Because I can't get enough of her,
and she's wearing a hat I bought for her.
It's a little big but she will grow into it soon!
(She was only a day old here)
Isn't she the cutest?!

♥ Loving Halloween

I used to scoff at Halloween and dismiss it as an American Hallmark tradition. What's it all about anyway? Kids dressing up and wandering about scaring each other, laughing madly, meeting their neighbours and getting lots of hyperactivity-inducing sweeties... hang on a minute... what have I been missing out on all these years?

Where we live now, Halloween is getting bigger and bigger. Maxi-Taxi participated last year when he was at his first ever sleepover at a mate's place. The mate's mum slapped a sheet on their backs, drew on teeth, called them vampires and took them out. Maxi-Taxi got scared out of his wits, loved it enormously at the time and then called us at around 10pm saying (and I quote) "I don't think this sleepover thing is working for me".

First ever sleepover + Halloween = not very good timing.

This year, the Tsunamis were kitted out in '$2 Shop With Mum Modifications' outfits. The 'buy and modify' approach to homemade is what it's all about here in Maxabellaland. Cappers was a Warty Witch, Maxi-Taxi a Debonair Vampire and The Badoo was a Scary Dummy-Sucking Bat.

After much preening we made it out the door and had the best time harassing the neighbours (well, those with a gold ribbon on their mailboxes* anyway), racing around like mad things with 15 other kids from the neighbourhood.

"Just because we're scary vampires and witches and bats and goblins and skeltetons and zombies and dead pirates, doesn't mean we should forget our manners... say thank you!" I called over the general din.  The pumpkin buckets filled with sweets and then... buckets and buckets of rain. We got drenched in a massive thunderstorm and, of course, Maxi-Taxi went nuts with anxiety when the thunder came. Talk about a Halloween fright night!

All in all, my first Halloween experience was the best kind of fun. Wherever the 'tradition' came from or what the actual point of the whole exercise was, I cannot tell you. And don't ask me what I'm going to do with three pumpkin buckets full of lollies. But I do know that family togetherness is the key and I'll take that where ever I find it.

What was Halloween like at your place?

* Some clever mum sent out a note with a piece of gold-curling ribbon attached earlier in the week. If you wanted to participate, put the ribbon on your mailbox. It worked so well!

Bailey,

Hello my sweet little niece.
Baby Bailey.
You came into the world at 3:23pm on Monday, October 25th 2010.
Weighing Six pounds Ten ounces, Twenty inches long.
Your Daddy, Grandma, and two Aunts were in the room
as you made your entrance.
(And of course your Mommy!)
And we all loved you the minute we saw you.

Here I am holding you for the first time.
You were very alert and looking all around.
I'm now an Aunt times FIVE.
And I couldn't feel any luckier.

Your big brother Hayden came to the hospital soon after with Grandpa,
he was so proud and so excited to see his little sister "bailwee"
He held you and stared into your eyes,
and when you started to cry he teared up himself.
you were just hungry, but he didn't like to see you sad.
You are a very lucky baby and will have all the love in the world from your family.
I can't wait till your personality shows and you become your own little person!
You're already thriving. Love you to pieces!

Aunt KaKa

today

i spent some time working on a project in my studio
