~ This is what drives me every day ~

We are close. There is not a time in my life that I don't have a special memory of me and my Grandma and Grandpa. Whether it's the special letters they used to send us as kids with dot to dot animal drawings or rounding up the cows on the farm or hanging out at 'Sportscene' or making and painting concrete plates while listening to John Williamson or reading books on the couch and watching the cricket or preparing and eating spaghetti bolognese with hollow pasta. Every single memory I hold dear to my heart. Through every up and every down they have been there. Still to this day we talk every single Sunday night. Even if there isn't much to talk about, I love just hearing their voice. I look forward to it every week. I love being able to share everything that happens in our life with them. No matter what they are going through they always have time for me and are always ALWAYS positive and motivating. I owe a BIG part of who I am to these 2 special people. They have taught me compassion, hope, gratitude and most of all unconditional love. No words could ever describe how much they mean to me and how grateful I am to them. They are the hardest working, most loving people I know and have given me the greatest gift of all...my mum.

I love you Grandma and Grandpa ~ More than you will ever know
Thank You for being you and teaching me to be the best person I can be

Build a Vertical Garden!

Got an ugly outside wall you want to hide? Pressed for outdoor ground space? Want to add some 'wow' impact to your garden?

Why not build-yer-own vertical garden?!

All the celebs are doing it. Well, landscapey celebs anyway. I've seen the idea on TV and in magazines and it always looks amazing but it has always appeared difficult and - moreover - expensive to try at home.

But, flicking through a recent issue of Real Living magazine my heart literally stopped when I saw this DIY idea for a vertical garden! It was lust at first sight and I clipped the page out immediately, knowing this was a project I absolutely must have a go at!

My kitchen has three windows - two of which are at bench top height and one of which peers out to an ugly side wall, the next door neighbour's house and the dog kennel. Sexy. This space was screaming for a makeover!

Before:
yucko!

After:
better!
So happy with the result! And I am kinda loving that the screen is pretty much invisible from the rest of our garden because this is a sectioned off area at the back of the paved courtyard; its only from inside or from the clothesline (!) that you can see the new vertical garden, loving this little element of surprise!

Want to make one yourself? It's easy, folks(she says, although husband did pretty much all the work!)

You'll need:

- A pallet (we stole salvaged one from Bunnings)
- A roll of weed mat (about $4)
- A large piece of plywood
- Nails
- 4 bags of good quality potting mix
- Screws and bolts to fix to the wall
- Staple gun
- Plants!
- Sharp knife

1. Nail your plywood to the back of the pallet as the backing... Unroll your weed mat into each side of the pallet so that you create a 'pot' for your plants to go into.
Staple the mat to the sides of the pallet so it affixes (and won't drop out of the pallet once filled with soil!)

2. Lift your pallet upright and affix to wall using your screws (ask at the hardware for advice depending on the type of wall/ fence you are fixing to!)
3. Fill each side of your pallet with potting mix.

Note Dan's costume change... halfway through project, he went for a mountain bike ride. Then came back and resumed work!
4. Using your knife, cut holes where you want plants to go.

5. poke your plants into said holes (I chose little potted coloureds which will grow to 15 cm's and ideally cover a lot of the wooden slats you see, and mine are shade resistant because they are against a shady wall... but YOU could go to town if your vertical garden is in full sun! Strawberries, herbs, flowers... the possibilities are endless!)
6. Water in well.

That's pretty much it, folks! Do let me know if you give this one a go, I'd love to see!

Lady Bird Dessert Table

Last week I had the pleasure of putting together a sweet and pretty lady bird themed dessert table for an adorable 2 year old named Izzy.  Izzy's mum requested a pink lady bird with a hint of blue.
The very cute cake was made by Blissfully Sweet Cakes along with the cookies, cupcakes and cake pops.
Mini merringues, strawberry milk, mini pots of jelly and little cartons of popcorn completed the sweet food and of course some jars of sweets were provided for the little guests to fill their take home goodie bags with.  I used a few different little packing options and they worked a treat.
The popcorn was served in cute little mini pails and the take home boxes where the very cute milk cartons favour boxes.

The new favour pails that I used for the popcorn can now be found in the store here - great for popcorn, ice cream or even as a take home favour pack!

soothing my soul

the other day my eldest was at school & youngest at kinder & i planned to do nothing else than walk the beach with my camera. & it was blissful. time to just snap away, think creatively & not be needed by anyone was just what i needed! i was able to clear my mind & soothe my soul. My day then flowed to making phone calls & getting on top of my list of things to do.

too often we can all get caught up in the daily busyness. but just having time to step away from the 'must do' to spend time doing the 'i would like to' can make such a difference!

My Easter decorations part 3

My Easter decorations part 3

Continuing my Easter colour scheme of mint, peach and gold, this past weekend I have been spray painting egg cups and making bunny jars to fill with Easter treats! I have also been doing a fair amount of glittering and paper punching more flowers for my Easter tree, leaving me time this week to make Easter sweet treats to my heart's content!

Also don't forget today is the last day to enter my Oodles of Eggs giveaway.

Have a sweet day!

Cute Blog Award

This gorgeous little award has been passed on to me by the ever so lovely...

JODES from the beautiful blog "Running in Cute Heels"

You must head over and follow this lovely lady - she is just wonderful!

Here are the rules once you are awarded this 'Cute Blog Award'

* Thank the blogger that gave you the award and link back to their blog.
* Share 7 facts about yourself.
* Pass the award on to 10 other bloggers and let them know.

My 7 facts ...

1. Social media is my life. Blogging, tweeting, Instagraming, facebooking...I'm hooked on it all. The connections and friendships I have made through social media has been life changing. I love sharing my journey with such beautiful, honest and special people.

2. I love burning scents in our house. I believe it is a key factor in making our house a home. I love changing the smells everyday and creating a new 'feel' to our space. I love burning candles, incense and melts. My favourite smells at the moment are "coconut and lime" from glasshouse "rosemary and lavender" from partylite and "strawberry and rhubarb" from partylite. They are just amazing and completely addictive!

3. I want to be a 'mumma' more than anything else in this world. People want to be nurses, doctors, lawyers or vets. I just want to be a mum. Everything in my life, every choice, every path, has been in preparation for this special journey. I am currently preparing myself mentally and physically for this amazing gift. I want to ensure that I am 200% ready and that I am my absolute best self. The day Rob and I become pregnant will be one of the happiest, most joyous days of my life. Motherhood will complete the perfect life I have with Rob. In every way!

4. I have a new found love of history and have a burning desire to learn more about it. I hated it at school and wasn't interested at all, but I found that learning through books has completely fascinated me. I first fell in love when I read 'Sarah's Key'. I now want to read and learn more. I want to learn about the wars, I want to learn about the Holocaust, and I especially want to learn about Australian history. I'm more interested in the personal stories from each of these eras and devastating historical events. They are very touching and beautifully inspiring.

5. My life long dream is to live on a farm. I have a dream of a beautiful house, on the land, where my children can grow up in the crisp clean air and be surrounded by pure beauty. Our children and our animals can run free, explore and be completely happy.

6. I am 100% obsessed with reality T.V. Tori and Dean, Khloe and Lamar, Ice loves Coco, Kendra, Keeping up with the Kardashians, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. I love them all. I don't know what it is but I'm completely hooked.

7. I am young at heart and will never grow up. I am a little naive at times and will always see the world through children's eyes. I always play make believe and the simple sight of a rainbow, sun lit cloud, butterfly,  children laughing, a sunset or anything that sparkles will make me completely happy. I believe in magic and it is the one gift that I hope will never fade.
