What's On YOUR Fridge?

For want of anything better to blog about this afternoon, I thought I'd join in on a bit of frolicky fridge-fun from Maxabella Loves.

Thankfully, there is nothing too embarrassing on my fridge; perhaps its even just a tiny bit too precocious in its minimalist frivolity. Missing are the magnetised Telstra bills, discount petrol vouchers and party invites... in it's place, some very fun magnetic containers from Ikea filled with lollies, a few magnetic words (magnets from Early Learning Centre), a picture of my unborn and a few happy snaps of my little Fern-Lucinda!

The evidence:
I think a much more telling game would be 'what's INSIDE your fridge' -- mine would show about 6 million litres of milk, some mouldy fruit n veg, half a packet of Thins, an assortment of mustards, every variety of cheese, a jar of pickles and some naughty dairy delights. In no particular order, and on terribly in-need-of-a-wipe glass shelves. What does this say about me?

On a similar note, I always think it is quite funny when you read those celebrity 'What's in Your Handbag' articles in Cosmo-esque magazines... there's always some designer sunnies, the latest Iphone and Ipod, a gorgeous cosmetics bag filled with expensive beauty products, a digital camera and a set of keys on a Tiffany keyring. Mine would show a sandwich bag of baby wipes, a tube of Paw-paw ointment, some balled up lolly wrappers, a pair of sunnies with one slightly askew arm, a box of sultanas, and 26 invaluable pieces of paper that cannot be thrown out. It IS a gorgeous handbag, though - a tan leather Wayne Cooper number I got for Christmas that cleverly hides the mess and debris that lies within. Love that!

Oh, and can I send a shout-out to LJ at My Own Two Hands in gratitude for the Sunshine Award she awarded me recently. Thankyou! I am supposed to pass on 7 things you may not know about me... but I'll save that for tomorrow; I can hear 'get-me-up' noises emanating from my daughter's room. Until then! x

A tin of dinosaurs...

I love thoughtful gifts...my nephews arrived and gifted my son a very sweet tin yesterday filled with little plastic dinosaurs and the children's book Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs. The tin which could also be used as a lunch box is neutral & fun! Emma Bridgwater is the designer and has a fantastic website here We had fun last night getting into bed and opening that little tin with Daddy (and he had fun trying to remember all the dinosaurs names)! The 3 of us enjoyed the book and look forward to more dinosaur play. Tomorrow I hope to make playdough with the boys...I know three little dinosaurs who will love it...

Yipee! It is that time of year again when all the new Autumn/Winter catalogs launch online: so much inspiration at once! Here I share with you one of my favorites, Pip Studio, a Dutch design company based in Amsterdam selling bed and bath collections, stationery, cushions, tablecloths and of course lots of porcelain.

On my wish list is the gorgeous cross stitch tablecloth above in stone and white with a blue and white gingham border edged with a cotton crochet lace. Oh, and I would love some of their pretty bird print porcelain to serve cupcakes on.

Have a sweet day!

Chicken and Vegie Sausage Rolls

Had great success with this new recipe one of the mums from school gave me the other day so I thought I would share it here seeing as we are in the thick of finals week on Master Chef here in Australia - the quantities seemed to make far more than it suggests so I have frozen a huge batch and have found them great to pull out for lunch and dinner. Much to my surprise they even looked like the picture! Recipe is courtesy of Coles.

Chicken and Vegie Sausage Rolls

300g Chicken Mince
1/2 grated onion
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 carrot, grated
1 zucchini, grated
2 tbsp hoisin sauce
2 sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed
1 egg, lightly beaten
2 tsp sesame seeds

Preheat oven to 200 deg C. Line baking trays with non-stick paper. Place the mince, onion, garlic, carrot, zucchini and hoisin sauce into a large bowl. Season with salt and pepper, and combine thoroughly.

On a clean board, cut pastry sheet in half. Lay some mixture along the centre of each piece and roll pastry to enclose. Brush rolls with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Cut each roll in half and place, seam side down, onto the prepared trays Bake for 25 mins, until golden brown.

Serve with side salad and ENJOY!

Freezing Tip: Cooked sausage rolls can be stored in an airtight container and frozen. Thaw and reheat in oven at 200 deg C for approx 10 minutes.

The July Chronicles: What's on your fridge?

The June Chronicles was a spectacular success with a whole entry received.

LJ at With My Own Two Hands was kind enough to complete the linky but she counts as only 1/2 an entry as she did not in actual fact do any sort of post on the happenings on her fridge.

And sadly, as I am related to MultipleMum at And then there were four, her beautifully written, dare we say unputdownable fridge chronicle can really only counts as 1/2 an entry as well.

So, an entry, all totalled.

But, proof of how hard it is to keep a brilliant idea down, I'm dusting myself off, picking myself up and merrily presenting...

The July Chronicles

Here is the birthday invitation to Cappers' best (possibly only) friend in the world's birthday party later this month. It is true that she is not a child inundated with party invites. Why, just last week one of the Preschool Mum Brigade bemoaned the fact that her little girl had 27 parties to go to all in one morning.  There is not a lot of bemoaning going on around here. Needless to say, we await the big event with pride.

Here is a photo of a photo of The Badoo at daycare with her 'gloves' on. Ever since this picture hit the fridge, she's insisted on wearing a pair of latex gloves that were, you know, just lying around. I have tried to tell her that the photo is of her very self, not in gloves but finger painting. But she's two and she wants the gloves.

You will notice that little Kingston, our 27 year old sponsor child from Malawi (for details, see The June Chronicles) has been covered up by a "Nuture your Friendships" card. This was accidental, but entirely symbollic. When, oh when, will we ever write back to the letter he sent us in 2004?

Here is a picture Maxi-Taxi drew for his mum of "siamese fighting fish and a scuba diver with a big knife." You will notice that the scuba diver has a speech bubble saying "I luv you mum". Maxi-Taxi produced this all on his own and every time I see it on the fridge I get a little tear. I don't know if this is because I am so proud of my boy or whether I am gripped by fear due to the love and the knife being in the same artwork. Either way, he's mine.

You can't see this on the larger picture above as it's lower than the camera captured, but Cappers stuck together a fairy for the fridge and as she managed the sticky tape all on her own, I thought it was worthy of a mention.

That's my fridge for July... so join the linky and share what's on yours. Linky open until the end of the month. Let's double last month's figures, people!
