This Too, Shall Pass

Flicking through one of my favourite coffee table books, Home by Anita Kaushal (read her gorgeous blog here) I had a little laugh this afternoon.

This page in particular:

The text reads:

Taste. You might find it hard to live with, but children do like tacky thing, and once upon a time so did you. Ask your mum. You might prefer something classic, but try to look at it through their eyes; the primary colours, the shape, the texture. Don't always expect them to share your enthusiasm or taste. The worst obsessions are probably a phase, and maybe better judgement will follow. But for the time being, let them enjoy the fun of it all.

So true.

When I was little, I adored some very tacky things. Including those delightful, rainbow coloured My-Little-Ponies. And here's a little secret. Recently I scoured Ebay for the vintage Mattel brand ponies from my childhood to give to Fern. Because she already adores horses and ponies and I knew she would love these original editions. But then I found these ones on sale at Coles (just $3.50!) and couldn't stop myself from adding them to the week's groceries. I may even go back for more.

Because this, too, shall pass.

And in the meantime, I'm reliving my own childhood all over again.

Do YOU have a secret soft spot for a toy from your childhood?
soft, warm and handmade...

Perfect little scarves to keep a little neck warm over the next couple of days. My little one and I are off on an adventure to Sydney to visit some special little friends. Miss E and Miss M will be showing us some lovely little places to play, eat and shop. I am really looking forward to spending time with an old friend and her beautiful family. The scarves have sentimental significance, knitted by my Mum and my Grandmother. And they just look so handsome on one little boy - who enjoys wearing them... (must get them teaching me this craft)!

Don't you hate it when you...

...mop yourself out of the house and the phone rings?

Wash a tissue along with your black velvet leggings?

Hang out two loads of washing and it rains and is sunny at the same time?

Tip over the mixing bowl with all the dry ingredients in it?

Click send on an email and suddenly realise you've sent it to the very person you were bitching about?

Change a honky nappy and the contents don't stay in the nappy?

Yesterday I did all these things. What a day.

[I chose this image because I chose to believe that there's a rainbow trapped in every storm cloud]

Having spent some of my weekend working on our garden by painting trellis, putting up lanterns and re-painting my garden shed, I am dreaming of finishing it and having my friends round for a party.

Have a sweet day!

Stunning Stoneware

I was just pointed in the right direction by a friend - the Bison Australia website. Bison make the most beautiful handcrafted stoneware products for the kitchen and dining room - I particularly love the little milk bottles. You can buy online or even visit one of their lovely stores.
