Claire is also one of lovely ladies that nominated me with the Sunshine Award!! Melinda from the fabulous Here we go loopy lou also gave one to me sooo lots of Sunshiney all round.

However....there are some conditions I have to abide to before I can accept it. I have to share 7 Random Things about Myself with my readers and then pass on the award to other inspiring bloggers!

So, here's my 7 Random Facts About Me:
  1. My watch broke about three weeks ago and surprisingly have not really needed it.

  2. My teenage (young) celeb crushes were the two Corey's - Corey Haim and Corey Feldman - Does that show my age??

  3. I love to cook but hate following recipes.

  4. I absolutely will not ever never eat my peas - hate them.

  5. I can ride a MOTORBIKE - yep. When we were younger we had a farm and loved nothing more than to jump on the dirt bikes and speed off through the paddocks.

  6. I cant see past my arm without my glasses. I hate my contacts and I really want to have the op but am way too chicken - Do you know that they put a scalpel in your eyeball?

  7. Definitely prefer the Cupcake over the Macaroon any day!

Hope I don't sound too boring
And here's 7 lovely inspiring bloggers who I pass the SUNSHINE AWARD on to:

What to Do With All Those Old Buttons...

First of all, can I just thank each and every one of my lovely readers who offered their advice and support the other day with regard to Fern's teething woes. Your support really helped a lot, and I am ordering an amber teething necklace from Ebay based on YOUR recommendations. Fern is so much better a few days on; last night she actually slept the entire night without a single call-out, perhaps that is why I had to energy to be creative rather than creep back into bed when she did this afternoon!

This morning I woke up to the bleak sound of rain spattering on my window, and, with no plans for the day, decided a craft project was just the thing to keep the boredom at bay (for an hour, anyhow!) Flipping through my inspiration folder, I came across an idea I've meant to try for ages:

Button Artwork!

If you are like me, you have a large jar of unwanted buttons salvaged from old clothing along with the spares from new. I rarely do anything with these buttons (I will admit out loud right now that if I lose a button on an item of clothing, that item inevitably ends up at the charity shop or in the cupboard for literally years before I give up and send it to the charity shop too). Thrifty, I am not.

So, Fern and I ventured today to Hot Dollar for a super-expensive piece of art canvas ($3.50) and the odd roll of sushi... mmmmm, sushi. Tuna and Avocado. With too much soy-sauce.

Anyway.

After lunch, I popped Fern down for a nap, and pulled out my ole jar 'o' buttons and some craft glue. An hour later, instant artwork!! Check it out:

Too easy! I meant to sew the buttons on using turquoise coloured cotton, but it ultimately seemed like way too much work. I could also have pre-painted the canvas. Again, too much work. I simply played around with the layout of the buttons I selected, then glued them on with a bit of PVA craft glue.

And I'm pretty darn happy with the result!

Do you like? What crafty ideas have been sitting in YOUR files awaiting a rainy day? x
At our beach, at our magic beach, we will walk when it's cloudy & grey, looking for driftwood, feathers & shells washed up on the edge of the bay... Magic Beach - Alison Lester

It is with much excitement I write this post. My two beautiful nephews who are currently living overseas arrive home today for a whole six weeks!!! I was inspired by their return home to put together a quick mummy craft post. At Easter we enjoyed a family holiday at the beach with my nephews and little one...while at the beach we collected lot's of different shells and had fun decorating sandcastles. I have placed 3 little shells (one for each child) into a memory box and written "our beach holiday" Easter 2010. It is a little reminder of our perfect beach holiday with three beautiful little boys. {you can see the little memory box on the shelf which hangs in my son's bedroom} A while ago we also threaded shells onto twine...we made these necklaces for some of our little friends as gifts and to hang on hooks around our house.

*The little wooden memory box was purchased at Riot craft supplies and I used super glue to hold the shells in place. I used a little white paint and water to soften the frame - I would normally use all white frames from Ikea {I felt this little memory box needed to be kept natural to tie in with the shells}
Have a beautiful day...

Loving Cocoon Couture

You may or may not have noticed that I've got a bit of a children's bedroom fetish. I just love the beautiful things they produce for children these days and I never restrict myself to just the kids' rooms with this stuff. I'd be happy to have it all over the house.

I've always wanted to buy this gorgeous Cocoon Couture shelf stand, but every time I'm about to hit 'buy' I ask myself "what exactly do you do with a shelf stand?" I mean, really. I get that it's ornamental, but still... shelf stand. Eighty-nine bucks of stand it on the shelf. You know.

Regardless, Cocoon Culture deserves a spot on Maxabella loves... simply because I love it. And they have other gorgeous lust-haves too.

Fab name, fab stuff.

PS - Stand by... tomorrow is the launch of The July Chronicles: What's on your fridge? Get ready to join in the fun by taking a few happy snaps of what's on your fridge right now. If you don't have a magnetic fridge, share your noticeboard!

Cosmopolitan Blog Awards

Cosmopolitan UK is launching the first ever Cosmopolitan Blog Awards and at the beginning of August they will be drawing up their shortlist to find out which five blogs in each category make it into the final round of voting.

I think it is great that the mainstream media here in the UK is promoting blogging by recognizing the wealth of talent here in the blogosphere, from beauty, to fashion and style, to news and current affairs blogs.

One of the blogs I've loved and nominated for an award is Holly Springett for 'new fashion blogger' as her blog is full of wonderful fashion illustrations and the cutest of finds like the custom made hair pieces in her post Beautiful Bohemia from Little Doe......

If you like what I'm up to here at Torie Jayne and would like to see me make the shortlist of five finalists in the Lifestyle category, then please vote for me here! All you have to do is:

1) Click on the button:

2) Select Lifestyle in the category list

3) Paste in my URL:

4) Then write a couple of words on why you like my blog :)

We love to leave seed out for the bold rainbow lorikeets that fly around our garden early in the morning or late in the afternoon. The little one loves to check the seed each time he walks out onto the deck...just in case it is empty - it might need a refill!!!
