That's Not Wind!
... that's one cheeky, authentic little SMILE and it's all for me me me.
Little Elliott, your eyes are all sparkly and your sunshine is radiating from the inside, out! And, despite the fact that it is 12pm and you have already blown your way into your 3rd outfit, it kinda makes the last 6 weeks of three-hourly-feeding-round-the-clock and therefore constant sleep deprivation worthwhile. Especially seeing as you are smiling at me from inside your crib, where I am certain you realise I am going to insist you sleep for the next few hours! Boy-o, you make my heart sing!

Styling and Discovering
In the past month I have undertaken two pretty incredible online courses - the first on Blogging and the other on photography.
Today I would like to talk a little on the first wonderful course called Blogging Your Way. The course is run by Holly Becker who is the author of the great blog Decor8
Not only is Holly a wealth of knowledge but she is encouraging, positive and giving.
She helps you to take a close look at why you blog and how you can become a better blogger with thought provoking questions and what seems to be hundreds of tips to make a blog a better place to visit.
Holly's co-teacher in this course is the very talented Leslie Shewring who writes the blog A Creative Mint. Leslie is a self taught photographer and stylist whose wonderful blog has the most gorgeous eye candy.

The combination of these two great talents have made for the most incredible course that really has helped me in both the blog world and the real world.
I must admit I have a fascination with Styling - it is something I have long desired to do but I have always wondered exactly how does one become a Stylist. There is no formal training and a personal individual style is just that - individual. A style can be displayed through both words or picutres and Holly and Leslie have both demonstrated throughout this course how to be an individual.

So it is with all these wonderful things in mind that I move forward realizing that my blog is my individual style on things - I hope to show you over the coming months many fun projects I am working on that are my attempts at Styling and being an individual.
If you are looking for a fabulous online course to participate in I would encourage you to pop over to Decor8 and find out more details - it may just be the lift you are looking for at this point in your blogging life.
Pink Patent Mary Janes: It's a girl thing
I always wanted to be a great mum. I wanted to be a mother who nurtured her daughter to be her best possible self. I wanted her to know there were so many possibilities and she could work out ways achieve them. I wanted my daughter to grow up confident, with pride and self-assurance. I planned on being the mum who would show her daughter the way.
Instead, she's shown me the way.
I've been blessed with a girl who walks tall and proud. Who's confident of herself and what she can achieve. She's confident that she's loved and nurtured and cared for.
That's a blessing.
I thought I'd teach her so much - instead - she's taught me.
♥ I was going to 'fake it till I could make it'. I swore I'd never utter a negative word about my body - or anyone else's - in front of her. And you know what? That taught me to love and appreciate my body more than I ever had before.
♥ I wanted her to see positive, loving role-models in her parents - and by speaking respectfully to my husband in her presence it taught me that that's the way it should be.
♥ She's taught me that there's nothing more magnificent than being greeted by someone who's genuinely delighted to see you {although I do draw the line at squealing my friend's name and running and jumping into their arms - that could be dangerous}.
She wants to be a famous dancer who travels the world and returns to her apartment in Paris. She wants to write in her spare time, and play netball in those other moments. When she retires from dancing she's coming back to Australia and buying a farm in the Southern Highlands. We're allowed to visit.
She sees a world of possibilities - and makes me realise what's out there - if you open your arms wide enough.
♥
I adore this post, it's made me want to open my own arms wide enough to give the world and all it's possibilities a great big hug. For more hugging, make sure you stop by Pink Patent Mary Janes for a chat sometime soon. Thank you for joining in my "What my children have taught me about myself" holiday week, PPMJ.

My Halloween cake
Over the weekend I decorated a traditional fruit cake for a dear friend of mine, Halloween style!
After marzipanning and icing the cake I had made earlier in the week, I carefully pushed small silver balls all the way around the base of the cake. Using a lace embosser I lighty pressed a lace pattern into the sides. The bones were made by rolling out grey sugar paste and cutting bones out of it using bone shaped cookie cutters. I then lightly painted them with grey fondant icing and covered them in silver sprinkles. The dripping blood was made by dripping bright pink fondant icing round the top edge and sprinkling edible pink glitter onto it. The house and birds were made in a similar manner to the bones and were attached to the cake using cocktail sticks.
Have a sweet day!
