Sunday Citar - Pain
Tabitha @ Fresh Mommy hosts the Sunday Citar meme - pop on over and have a look,
I am sure she would love you to join in too.
Last Sunday I hurt my back making the bed, this Sunday I am still in a lot of pain, so I was off in search of quotes to share.
Pain is deeper than all thought; laughter is higher than all pain ... Elbert Hubbard
Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional ... author unknown
We cannot learn without pain ... Aristotle
So how can I relate to these 3 quotes, well:
Today I will try and laugh more, after all on Friday when I looked after my littlest grand-daughter, we had so much laughter that I almost forgot my pain.
This week I will not wallow in my pain, I will acknowledge that it is there but I will refuse to suffer.
I will learn my lesson and not made the bed anymore ... well maybe, I will be more careful when I make the bed, I know I have had a bad back for years and have got lax in looking after it.
So my friends, I wish you a lifetime free of pain, and if for some reason it occasionally still pops into your life, remember to laugh. xxx
A Relaxing Saturday
Today has been a great day. Earlier I went to visit Kali again. She's much calmer today. She is getting used to the other dogs, and they are doing the same. We found that she loves to fetch the tennis ball! And she's really starting to show her love for both my parents. Kali & Roxy are getting along well too.
Then we picked up my nephew for the evening.
We went over the in-laws for dinner, Ledo's Pizza, Yum!
Later Hub & Hayden played catch and soccer outside.
Afterwards we went home for a bath,
and now we're all snuggled on the couch watching Bolt.
Goodnight!
Easy Sunday: Hearty Chicken and Barley Soup
I'm running out of time to do stodgy winter warmers (hopefully I am, anyway - are you coming Spring? Well, are you?) Here's a delicious chicken and barley soup that won't fail to warm the cockles of your hearties. I simply adore barley and when I make this I usually add more than the recipe calls for (along with zucchini, of course... you could throw a couple of those in here too if you like). This recipe was an award winner for a reader over at Australian Women's Weekly and you'll soon taste why.
1 cup barley
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 medium onions, chopped
1 large leek, chopped
3 sticks celery, trimmed, chopped
1 large carrot, chopped
1 large parsnip, chopped
1 small sweet potato, chopped
2 medium potatoes, chopped
1 medium swede, chopped (leave out if you can't get it, or substitute zucchini...)
8 cups salt-reduced chicken stock (like most things, it tastes better with the non-salt reduced version...)
4 cups water
4 chicken thigh fillets, chopped finely
½ cup coarsely chopped parsley
Place the barley in a large bowl. Cover with cold water, stand for 4 hours or overnight.
Heat oil in a large stockpot; cook onion, leek, celery and carrot, stirring, until softened. Add remaining vegetables, stock and water then bring to the boil. Add chicken and drained barley, simmer, loosely covered, about 1½ hours or until thickened.
Just before serving, season the soup with salt and pepper and stir in parsley.
Suitable to freeze.
Enjoy!

Vintage at Goodwood
Yesterday I went to the UK’s first vintage festival "Vintage at Goodwood", tucked away in the simply stunning surroundings of the Goodwood Estate in West Sussex. Billed as fashion's answer to Glastonbury, it is the brainchild of Red or Dead founder/designer Wayne Hemmingway and his wife Geraldine, and is a celebration of five decades of British music, fashion, film, art and design, from the 1940's to the 1980's.
After being fitted with our retro watch wrist tags we walked through an almost magical woodland with twinkling lights hanging from the trees. I could feel the excitement building inside me. As one teenage girl beside me declared, "I love it already!". Upon entering the festival arch we were greeted by an array of gorgeous vintage cars and the cute film set-style "High Street" at the hub of the Town. We headed over to the Yellow Brick Road in the vintage marketplace, passing teams of girls swanning around with gorgeous vintage-style hair do's that they had had done at the aptly named Beauty Bar.
There was stand after stand full of gorgeous vintage and vintage-inspired treasures. My favorite stand was Acorn and Will. In fact, I loved it so much that I will have to dedicate a whole post to them later, including their pretty bird brooches, reels of fabulous polka dot ribbons and an array of pastel kitchenware.
From the Yellow Brick Road we strolled down Eclectic Avenue, admiring the pretty lace dresses in hues of washed out pastels adorned with feathers and gems.
At the end of Eclectic Avenue there was plenty for the kids to do at the vintage Butlins camp.
After having a peek around a few of the beautifully presented display caravans and Airstreams that were decorated with lots of bunting and kitsch florals, curiosity got the better of us and we headed over to the group of photographers who had assembled at the Beach BBQ.
Aha, you can see what all the fuss was about! Who could resist these bathing belles in their cute swimsuits!
As we meandered around the fairground, I got distracted by the Vintage Food Quarter.
I couldn't help myself and bought a quarter of strawberry bonbons at the Candy Camper. The draw of the film set High Street became too much and we headed up South Street towards the clock tower.
Mingling around the shops with the perfectly dressed revelers.
Watching festival-goers getting vintage make overs and enjoying all the eye candy and tunes the festival had to offer.
Have a sweet day!
