the colours of summer...

Rock pools explored and shells collected...crabs sighted and sandy feet.

Our Christmas vacation was quietly enjoyed...mornings at the beach, afternoon walks in the drizzling rain, quality time with family.
When the sun came out and smiled we had intense heat that needed the use of our new beach umbrella...each afternoon i could not resist the call of a lazy nap snuggled in
with the my boys and my little baby bump.

Beauty & Ice

A couple of you have asked what lens I purchased. So here it is:

After much debate on this one and another I made my final decision based upon what I would use most. Originally I wanted my next lens to be a zoom lens. But I realized how rarely I would use a zoom. So that will come at a later date (along with my growing wants list). For now I'm enjoying being able to take much more fast, clear, and crisp photos even in lower light situations. Not to mention the depth of field is awesome, and the price for it's ability is superb!

Anyway, I wanted to post my Touch Up Tuesday photo. I took it this morning. We had an ice storm that left behind weighted down trees, slick roads and sidewalks, and icicles. Joy. I managed to get a quick shot of the icicles hanging off our bench before running off to work .

My Touch Up:
Cropped. Adjusted Layers. Up'd the brightness (+15) & contrast (+30) Brightened the white using color replacement. Used high pass filter with soft blending mode of 35% opacity. Ran P&W's B&W Beauty. Adjusted the B&W down to 65% opacity and the bump to 60%. Used unsharp mask at 29% opacity.

I think I like it. I could do a million edits and I'm sure one would turn out better but that's all I have time for this evening so I'll stick with it :)

It's Time to Stop Dreaming...

... and start creating.

I've been on a sewing rampage the last few days. I woke up one morning and decided to stop dreaming about having my own little business and make it a reality! Perhaps it's because I'm finally averaging more than 4 hours sleep in a row (thankyou, Elliott) and the all-consuming tiredness is slowly seeping from my body leaving all my old creativity, inspiration and motivation in it's wake. Whatever the reason, its nice to have the old 'me' coming back.

What am I making? Why, children's clothing, of course! For ages I've been frustrated with the mass-produced slogan and label embellished offerings out there, not to mention noticeable lack of cute boys clothes... and a lot of the handmade stuff available in boutiques is super expensive. So, my aim is to make original, affordable handmade designs. They won't be perfect, but to me (and I'm hoping - you!) that's the beautiful essence of handmade. You can bet yer bottom dollar that each piece will be made with love and designed to make your little poppit stand out from the crowd.

I'm excited about my new venture and I really hope you'll support me. Confidence is not necessarily my forte, but you guys have given me the wherewithal to give this a go!

So, I'm currently buried under mountains of fabric. Cotton. Patterns. Wayward buttons and clips. My kitchen table has literally morphed into a sewing studio and we've been eating outside for days... but I've never been happier in my own mess!

I have quite a bit more sewing (not to mention, organisation of logistics!) before I 'launch' my wares... but here's a sneak preview.

'Francesca' singlet ($10), skirt ($15) and hairclip ($4) ensemble as modelled by Fern - that's a whole ensemble for <$30!!! :

Check out Elliott's little ensemble I posted the other day for a sneaky at my baby-boy wares... I'm scared to ask what you think... but go on, tell me. Be honest! Plus any tips you can give me about putting myself out there and where/ how to sell my wares out there in cyber-space would be tres appreciated! Much love...

As many of you know, I love cake stands! From the gorgeous coloured bird and flower ones from Whitney Smith to the adorable "Decor Bon Bon" range from Rosanna. So, today I want to introduce you to British potter, Linda Bloomfield, who makes hand thrown, porcelain, subtly coloured cake pottery in simple shapes with tactile satin matt glazes.

Linda first took up pottery in 1973 in a potter's studio in Bristol, England and since then she has been a visiting scholar to MIT in Boston in the US, opened her first pottery studio in California, and exhibited and demonstrated at Art in Action. Linda currently resides in West London and her tableware is stocked in Liberty, amongst other retailers, as well as being shown in international galleries. Her book, entitled "Advanced Pottery" comes out later this month.

I, of course, love her ice cream coloured three cake stands piled high and filled with pretty cup cakes!

Have a sweet day!
summer rain...

Santa delivered well...a surfboard was requested back in September. The first surf was in the rain 2 days after Christmas (i took photos whilst huddled under a huge umbrella)
With stiff legs and tightly clenched hands...he desperately wanted to surf with his Daddy.
He was determined, unsure, cold and simply gorgeous. x

One Image....

Don't you love it when you are aimlessly scrolling through squillions of images on Google and one - just one - catches your eye enough to inspire your day?

For me today, its this one. The pinwheel feature wall. The style and colour of the papers. That ornate turquoise bed. Those embroidered cushions.

Swoon.
