Friday Favourites - Cake Pops

Wow where did the week go - Friday Favourites are here again.  Today I have a lovely collection of Cake Pops for you - I am slightly fascinated by them and I have promised myself that one day soon I will make an attempt - I think they finish off every dessert table perfectly.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

I Scream You Scream...

... we ALL scream for icecream!

Ok, I know I dissed a little on my daughter this week... but you all know I love her, right? And I know she knows it too. But to illustrate it to her further, I sat up last night and made her a little pressie! A lot of love went into this gift, because I am a hopeless sewer for all my grand intentions and you won't be seeing my designs on Etsy any time soon!

My daughter LOVES jewellery. She's been playing with the rings/ necklaces/ bracelets/ earrings of anyone who leans within reaching distance of her almost since the day she was born. So I love to buy her little inexpensive trinkets when I see something I know she'll like. Yesterday was very warm, so my inspiration for making this little necklace is the idea of Summer and memories of sitting outside as a child, licking icecream from the cone as fast as I could, in a losing battle against the sun! I think the pavement ate more icecream than I did!

Fern found the necklace this morning and looked very cute wearing it... Shes also polite enough not to scorn my dreadful hand sewing! Unfortunately I didn't get a pic of her wearing it in time before I popped her and Elliott down for a little morning nigh-nigh.

We're off swimming shortly in Nanny's pool -- its our first swim of the season and I'm a teeny bit nervous about squeezing my post-natal bod into a cozzie... but at least its family and not a beach full of supermodels! Have a lovely weekend, see you next week! x

Lost...

"I wish that place had a phone so I could talk to you again. I thought of you today, but that is nothing new, I thought about you yesterday, and days before that too. I think of you in silence. I often speak your name. All I have are memories and a picture in a frame"

The month of November always marks a sad time for us - Nine years ago this month we suddenly lost my Dad and there still isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of him. He was such a great Dad, such a hard worker, he was caring, firm, gentle, honest and loved us all.

Thinking of you today and everyday Dad xxoo

Things I learned this week including that cupcakes can bake themselves

Happy Friyay! Another week, another... week. I overnighted in Adelaide on Sunday night for a shoot on Monday, collapsed exhausted on Tuesday following major work announcements, spent Wednesday night laughing at a home BBQ with my soon-to-be-ex colleagues and spent Thursday night baking into the wee small hours. Hello working Mum. Here's what I learned along the way...

1. When asked to bake something for a school event, you will be up until waaaaaay past your bedtime (8pm) (not really) (8.30pm) putting  together a sweet batch of 24 cupcakes with smiley faces only to find that most people just bring in store-bought stuff on a paper plate. Sigh.

2. People harshly judge mothers who travel for business.

3. There is this really fantastic site called Creative Muslims that brings together Muslim artists, graphic designers, photographers, etc. What I love about it is that it's been a great way for me to get to know a completely different (and, for whatever reason, controversial) culture and religion and appreciate the way that religion works in a lifestyle quite similar to my own. Finding a common platform to start is a great way to appreciate another culture.

4.  Blog Years: For every minute you spend in the Blogosphere, 25 minutes will have elapsed back on Planet Earth.

5. Drugwars is still around and is just as addictive as ever. Have you ever played it? I spent hours at work in the UK with my trade finance colleagues* lost in drug running. Play if you dare - you might not come back out again for many, many months.

Did you learn anything new to share this week? What do you think of store-bought cupcakes, mums who desert their young families to go away on business, Muslims, Blog Years or drug running...?

* Do remind me to tell you about the time I landed a job in international trade finance while temping as a secretary in London.
