Here's a little post about Glen

Have you met Glen? I haven't either, but boy do I like him.  His blog is irreverent and funny and honest (and every now and then he does these weird posts pretending he's some Hollywood wannabe dude called Breeze Van Santo which I totally don't get but read anyway), but that's not why I'm dedicating this post to him.

I've mentioned him before because up until Sunday when Loz joined the gang, Glen has been my only (unrelated) male follower. He comments and everything (his comments are extremely funny. Check out his musings on my love of birds here). I used to wonder why I didn't have many male followers (they are so, so welcome). I'm definitely not a girly girl - I know how to roll my own cigarettes, drink bourbon straight up when the mood catches me and I'm a hell of a pool player after a couple of them bourbons. But really, let's face it, I'm hardly one to shy away from a... delicate subject, am I? I kinda put it aaaall out there. And I do like pretty. A lot.

So, I'm just in love with the fact that this bloke (and he is a BLOKE) would diligently stick with all the posts about female toilet habits and pretty pom-poms and garlands and strutting your stuff and childbirth and breastfeeding and even, god help him, bikini-line waxing. He reads them all. He says they "scare the hell out of him", but he reads them anyway. I like that in a man.

So Glen, I know you're reading this and I just wanted to say, from all of us scary women in Maxabellaland, that we love blokes like you. We really, really do.

Do you have any male followers? Do you also admire men who won't let women's business get in the way of a decent friendship?

[Image blatantly nicked from Glen's Life. He looks a bit psycho, but I'm sure that's just his Halloween face... right Glen? Glen?]

My New Swimming Pool

I've always wanted a swimming pool. And it was hot on Sunday. Very hot. So, it seemed an excellent idea to go shopping for a small inflatable 'pool' to play in... one that might fit all of us, rather than the teensy 20-cent-coin sized number we got last Summer for Fern to splash around in.

At the shops, there was only one pool on the shelf. And it was on sale! "Do you reckon it will fit?" I asked my husband.

"Yes, it'll fit" he replied.

Shopping is hardly a recreational pursuit with 2 children, so we snapped it up, got it home and opened up the box.

We started pumping.

And pumping.

And pumping.

And then we got the hose out and started filling.

And filling.

And filling.

While we waited, I read the entire Harry Potter novel series cover to cover.

And then we peeked. Our little blow-up pool filled the entire courtyard, with all the furniture removed! We stuck a toe in. It was like dipping a toe into the deep-freeze at the supermarket! My husband bravely dove in. I sat on the sidelines and pondered the meaning of buyers remorse.

I picked up the box and skimmed the capital warning emblazoned across the top. How did we manage to miss the fact that this monstrosity requires a fence

$40 for the pool.
$4000 for a pool fence?!!?!

Eventually I braved the cold and slid in, one limb at a time... we made a pitcher of icy-cold (to match the water) sparkling water and I pureed some hummus. We enjoyed a lovely hour or so in the sunshine like that. Of course, now the afternoon is over I'm wondering what to do with my inflatable 3m pool - now filled with a zillion tonnes of water? I've already extracted 300 watering cans-full, the garden is now drowning -- so much for the Aussie drought! What to do with the rest?!
Dan is diggin the new pool... on another note, can you believe his awful attempt at 'Movember'?

Where's your belly?

This past week I realized I really hadn't taught Roxy a new trick in awhile. She knows sit, come, stay, down, kiss, high-five, rollover, and hop! So I taught her "where's your belly?"...she picked it up with a couple days work :)
She's my smart girl.
I also attempted a few pretty photos with the new cam..

Not the best- not perfect- but 'm enjoying challenging myself and hoping I can improve that way!
What do you think?

This weekend Hub, Rox, and I had our pictures taken for those Shutterfly Christmas cards we will be sending out! My sister (who has dabbled in photography) took a few shots outside around our house with my camera. They turned out good! I'll post some on here soon! Sunday was a totally lazy day. Hub and I went out Saturday night so we woke up late in the morning then watched football all day with nothing to do! It was great. Then I ordered from Shutterfly. I SAVED $220!! I only SPENT $27 total! I got 150 pictures (some 5x7's and an 8x10), 60 Christmas cards (half are my sister's cards!), and an 8x8 photo book with 15 additional pages! I can't wait to get everything in!

Week-a-Boo

Once again I had a truly beautiful weekend that was filled with lots of fun and laughter.
~Many memories were created and special moments were cherished~

On Saturday morning I went to work with Rob. I got to spend most of the day relaxing, sleeping, swimming and photographing on the beach. I hadn’t been to the beach on my own (without the kids I look after) all year so it was beautiful to just sit and enjoy the peace and beauty of the beach. The highlight was swimming on my own – not racing after an over enthusiastic toddler or excited 6 year olds – just me and the waves and the sweet salt air.

Rob picked these flowers for me and left them beside my beach towel as I slept.
~ Who said romance is dead ~

My Wildlife lover husband saw this little guy while working and was so excited to show me - I was totally excited until it jumped at me then ran away haha

We then headed home for some family time in the backyard cleaning up and gardening. It was so nice after the day in the sun to hang out in our backyard with the beautiful breeze blowing. Dogs, cats and chickens all playing together!

Saturday night we decided to go out for a romantic night out at the golden arches ;) It was McHappy Day on Saturday so we decided to do our part and go down and buy a Big Mac for the kids

Sunday was a lovely and special day. 2 of my beautiful friends (who are also my brother in laws step children therefore making them our ‘nieces’) came over with their families. Emily and her fiancé Guy have a beautiful baby girl called Chloe and Jessica and her boyfriend Brook brought over their little brother (Nathan and Cass’s son – my nephew) Oliver. We put on a BBQ and spent the day swimming and hanging out and spending some gorgeous quality time together. We always see each other at family events but Sunday was just a day for us 6 to hang out and have some fun! The babies had a ball in the pool and I was so excited to spend some time with these gorgeous babies. Now that summer is only around the corner and the weather is heating up I cant wait for more of these days. There is nothing better then relaxing by the pool with your loved ones. I am so lucky to have these amazing people in my life and I have truly found gorgeous friends.

~ Our neighbours stopped by with their bird which is EXACTLY the same as our bird - super cute ~

And that was my weekend - head over to Claire at Scissors Paper Rock for more Week-a-Boo's
