Christmas at bm3... a sneaky peek

Folks, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Toys in every store, and all that stuff. Myer has had their Xmas display up so long I'm starting to scour for their Easter Egg range!!

Anyway, it seems only fitting to get my butt into gear and add some festive cheer to bm3!

Today, I'd like to show you something special I've been working on; ok it's not for kids specifically, but I couldn't stop myself making something special for the home this year -- something modern, eclectic, Australian, and with the capability to be displayed with pride all YEAR ROUND! I'm keeping one to hang in my studio (which - by the way is coming on very nicely -- updates and pics next week!).

I actually wasn't intending on selling these but put this one up in my Madeit store on a whim yesterday afternoon... and it sold pretty much straight away! So, here it is. The first of my exclusive range of Christmas wreaths!

My wreaths are constructed on a large 30cm round wire and feature hundreds of torn strips of vibrant designer fabric. A dainty bird perches in the centre with vintage crochet and button detailing and is tied with a yellow ribbon. A piece of grosgrain is tied to the bottom of the wreath.

The wreath can be customised to your preferred colour palette if my modern hues are not to your taste! Just let me know what you'd like!

$40 + $10p&h in my Madeit store or email bubbymakesthree@yahoo.com with any questions you have!

I'd love to know what you think of my wreath -- TOO modern... or just right for a modern Aussie gal this xmas? xx

Today on label love I bring you Danish brand, Ferm Living.

Ferm living started life out as a graphic design agency in Denmark, founded in 2005 by Trine Andersen. It later developed into a design company selling lifestyle products after Trine could not find the right wallpaper. So she took it upon herself to design and create a range of wallpapers at an affordable price. In 2006 the first collection hit the high street and the company has gone from strength to strength. Ferm products are now sold in Australia, USA, Finland, The Netherlands, UK, Spain, France, Italy, Sweden and Japan.

I, for one, adore the shelving units shaped like houses and the textural cable knit pen holders.

Have a sweet day!

Party on down: Theme

The theme is my favourite bit!  The key to working a good theme is attention to detail. The little-bitty-bits make the whole thing come together and add the wow factor. Unfortunately, little-bitty-bits are the things that catch on and become the latest fad - stripey straws / moustaches-on-sticks, anyone? So you need to think outside the square a little bit and make your party your very own.

Choosing a theme has always been left to my children. Hence, the recent random Harry party when Maxi was into Harry Potter for two seconds exactly around invitation sending time. To this day I am quite certain that the only thing he knows about Harry Potter is what he learnt at that party, but I digress. The point is, the theme was his choice and I do not judge.

Themes can be tricky to pin down at the best of times. Prior to deciding on Harry we were working a Space theme and before that it was an Animal theme and before that he wanted everyone to come in black and bring a monkey soft toy. He's also had an Insect, Dinosaur and a Monster party in his time and instead of a baby shower we had a Jungle theme party that totally rocked.

See, if they're little or not born yet, you get free choice! Beware, though, one-ers and two-ers really just need a cake and not too much fuss - parties are overwhelming at the best of times and the poor bubba tends to spend the entire party in horrified tears being bounced from one person to another. But you can still create a memory moment without sacrificing their sanity: choose their favourite thing to stage the party around (a colour, a tv show, things in the sky, Beatrix Potter, whatever your little one seems to like), have the celebration in the early evening, do the cake straight after dinner, put the birthday baby to bed and let your hair down with your friends and family.

Okay, back to the theme... click through to see some of my favourite examples of themed parties. We'll be exploring ideas for some of these party themes in more detail in upcoming posts. Let me know if you're working a particular theme you want me to catch on with as we continue...

Down That Little Lane

Have you heard the news - Down that Little Lane is now live!

Down that Little Lane is an exciting new online store that has just opened it's virtual doors and I am so proud and excited to be part of it.

After two years of hard work owner Tessa has created a beautiful place to shop by sourcing the less commercial and more bespoke products and services.  The site is beautifully designed, easy to navigate and full of all the most wonderful things you could ever want.

I was most honoured when Tessa invited me to be part of her exciting project.  Down that Little Lane is an online multi store where sellers host their own shop - the point of difference here is that it is by invitation only so the emphasis is on quality and not quantity.

As an opening offer DTLL is hosting  wonderful giveaway where you can win a beautiful piece of Uberkate jewellery just for registering.  Do go on over and visit but be warned - you will need your credit card as there is so many gorgeous things on show!
