Christmas With Birds Party Magazine

I was delighted to be able to put together a Christmas table for the recent Holiday issue of Birds Party Magazine.  Here are some of the pictures of my Green and White Christmas Table with very special thanks to the talented Jacki from Blissfully Sweet Cakes for her gorgeous cupcakes and cookies.

Cake stands, glass jars, paper straws, favour bags, Christmas Stamps, Baking Cups and ribbon all available in the Sweet Style online store here.

Now you must pop over and check out the rest of the magazine - Bird has done an amazing job with so much inspiration to choose from.

Enjoy!

bm3 in the press!

Hello peeps! This is my first check-in for the week... I've been down n out with the dreadful lurgy and had my head buried in a bucket for the better part of two days... I've also been inundated with Xmas wreath orders -- I actually need to source more rings as I've sold every one I could get my hands on! Loving doing something a bit different though.

Anyway, I had to pop quickly by and share with you some press - some magazine press - bm3 has received this last week! Check out page dddd of the Summer edition of Shop4Kids! I am very excited, not the least because my work is in a magazine but because the lovely Danielle from Shop4Kids actually contacted me out of the blue and asked if they could use my baby boy bow ties in their photo shoot! I buy every issue of Shop anyway for the kiddy eye-candy and shopping inspiration so I am thrilled thrilled thrilled to be included.

dreadful pic - taken with my iphone! Check out the kid on the right page wearing his bm3 bow-tie!

I have been so blessed this year to have had some incredible coverage and mentions of my work, including:

Apartment Therapy Ohdeedoh
Handmade Cooperative
Kid Independent
Shop Contemporary Handmade
The Style Collective
Style my Child
The Happy Home

I really woudnt even have a business without the support of the handmade community... so thankyou!!

ps. I have a new catalogue of bow-ties available for Xmas in my madeit store:

I picture these being sported by little boys (and their dads?!) at santa photo shoots, end of year concerts and parties, christmas parties and everywhere in between! Dan and Elliott will be wearing their matching their matching reindeer bow-ties for their santa photo next weekend!

$14 each (or 2 for $25 -- just message me) and giftwrapped as per last pic.

I have a very sweet little boy and girl's onesie and singlet coming later today to my store. Oh how I love Christmas!!

xx

Today on shops i love, I bring you the bright and beautiful lifestyle store, Berry Red. They have a brick and mortar store in Hereford, England but there's also a fabulous online store with loads of my favourite brands, like Nordal, Green Gate, House Doctor and Rice DK to name a few.

Their emphasis is on colour and pattern, from Green Gate's pretty patterned stoneware to Cath Kidston's retro printed Roberts Radios. Everything is beautifully styled and photographed and the site is a delight to peruse. I am loving the mini fir trees planted in whimsical woven baskets adorned with cute pink and red birds, and the colourful cluster of frames I featured a few weeks back from Nordal.

Have a sweet day!

Party on down: Invitations

There is no question that a standard invite can look snazzy and will do the job of getting the party goers to the venue on time. A simple card can tie in with the party theme and is quick and simple to produce. I like designing and creating my own, but if you're a bit computer or crafty challenged, there are many Etsy stores that will do a fine job for you. Three favourites are:

Pink Creative Invites
Peppertowne
Little Bulldog Design

Plus there are loads of free invite printables about the place. Google 'free party invitation printables' and for other ideas and inspiration do check out :

Our blogging mate Simoney has Kids Party Invites
Browse through the printables round up at the fabulous How About Orange
Kellie often includes party invites in her Friday Freebies at 74 Lime Lane
Kate at picklebums also does some lovely free printables that include some invites.

However.

HOWEVER.

A standard card is one thing. An imaginative, amazing party invitation is quite another. It will set the scene and turn the sleep-countdown on weeks before the party. More than that, it shows that your children's party is all about the actual children and I'm all about that. Peeking at some (very beautiful) party scenes here and there, I've noticed that there can be a tendency for 'stylishness' to overtake the childish fun... and we can't have that!

If you're going to come up with something original that will stand out in the crowd, you've got to let your imagination go a bit wild and grow leg hair. Settle on your theme and then grab ideas from as many places as you can (Pinterest again comes up trumps for collecting all those grabs in one place and wedding sites are the absolute biz for clever ideas!). It goes without saying that you should be thinking about the party and the invitations at least three months out from the party. That gives you lots of time to settle on an idea and then let your imagination fly!

Here are some great leaping off points...

Packaging

You can package a standard invitation or add a little something in such a way that it takes it to another level.

Tickets

Using a ticket style for the invite suggests a marvellous journey is in store and the party goer can bring it along on the day to gain 'admittance', making them feel extra special.

Journals

A ticket can become something even more - a keepsake of a party journey. Passports, mission logs, maps and diaries work for all sorts of parties - travel, under the sea, superhero, spy, fairy...

Cut-outs

Cut-outs can take an invitation to the next level and are really easy to do. You start with a good idea...

Wow Factor

All you really need is a fun concept and you can work it in so many ways. We are only limited by our imaginations... and time, yes, time. And sometimes money... and time.

I gotta wrap this up, I could be here all day.

If you can handle it, there is even more party invite inspiration on my Party On Down: Invite pinboard (yes, I have a pinboard devoted exclusively to party invitations... we all have our, ahem, things). And don't forget to let me know if there is a particular theme you want to explore as we move along in our party posts.

Next time: Food
