'Owl' Inspired Birthday Party

Have you noticed that there always seems to be some kind of animal on-trend in the fashion/ decorating world? Remember when everybody was getting tattoos of dolphins on their ankles? Then it was birdies and bird cages everywhere and now? It is the humble owl.

Owls, it would seem, are still totally on-trend... everywhere I turn, an owl monogram has been sewn onto a singlet, or as a mobile dangling over a crib, or as a cushion or a ceramic figurine and so on and so on.

Fern - clearly a natural fashionista - is completely fascinated by them.

Have you ever seen 'Giggle and Hoot' - a childrens' program featured weekday afternoons on ABC2? It features a man (Jimmy Giggle) and his owl (Hoot) and has become a part of our nightly ritual of getting ready for bed. Sadly, when I tuck her in of a night if I say "see you in the morrrning!" she'll reply "hoot hoot!" (if you've seen the program, you'll know what I mean).

... but the real inspiration for this post is my discovery of this gorgeous owl-inspired birthday party. I love everything about it -- the colours, the flowers, the pinata, the decorations... what little girl would not adore this romantic and whimsical party? Unfortunately, I accidently deleted the link to the blog I sourced it from - oops - so if it's yours, please let me know so I can give you the well deserved credit!

Enjoy this bit of eye candy, and have a great Monday!

Point + Shoot : 17 & 18

You might not have noticed that I missed last weeks Point and Shoot {but I did} I tried to move on but just can't let it go - so I'm doing it now - a little OCD I know :)

Saturday June 5th 8pm

About 5 minutes after singing happy birthday to my brother I was surprisingly vomited on by Lou and just to keep life interesting this didn't stop until about Wednesday {LOVELY} hence missing Point and Shoot last week.

Saturday June 12th 6.30pm

Luckily children seem to bounce back pretty quickly and we were able to do a few things this weekend. This snap is taken at one of our favourite cheeky dinner hangouts after we had spent the arvo visiting some family.

Sunday June 13th 10.30am

On Sunday, we met up some friends for a yummy breakfast in South Melbourne with a spot of Market shopping after. Fresh flowers and Turkish bread were on Lou's list of things to pick out.

Its a work day for both the hubby and I today, so regular programming in this household.

Hope your enjoying the long weekend if you have it off - why not check out what everyone else is doing  here.

Children's bedroom lust (the acceptable kind...)

I have a secret passion for decorating children's bedrooms. This secret is so well-kept that even if you visited my actual children's bedrooms, you would not realise this passion exists...

Although, let's be real here, people. There is absolutely no evidence that a child has ever set foot in any of these magnificent bedroom showpieces and even if they did they would be instantly chastised for leaving marks on the air.

I think sometimes I am just too practical and stingy to be a truly good decorator. Cappers bedroom is a lovely space, but she wanted pink, pink, pink and that's what she got (note absence of pink in stylish rooms above). There was a reasonable blue ticking roman blind on her bedroom window when we moved in and I managed to convince her that it was permanently glued to the wall. Turns out that blind saves the room from looking like a particularly messy marshmallow.

For The Badoo's room, I made about 60 colourful printed butterflies (that's right, 60 of the little devils - see WMG for only possible explanation) and strung them back and forth across her room. They look beautiful and as a newborn she was fascinated, but that was the beginning and end of decorating The Badoo's bedroom. Make that practical, stingy and lazy.

Maxi-Taxi's room is huge so the lonely bunting I hung in the window is the equivalent of hanging one balloon and calling it a party. But, you know, boys are hard work to decorate for if they're not especially nautical and oh my, have you seen the price of kid stuff these days? Besides, I have a book to read. Practical, stingy, lazy and unmotivated.

But I'll continue to dream that I'm none of the above. That I have both the capacity and desire to furnish my home in a manner that is individual, appealing and effortlessly chic. And practical. Oh, and cheap.
