a road trip

on a saturday afternoon
 the four of us
 driving through new places
 & familiar streets
 in the rain
 no traffic
 to be seen
rocking to tunes on the radio

do you love going on a road trip?
where do you go?

Three Magic Words

Everyone knows that actions speak louder than words... and, since the day they were born I have showered my children with more kisses, cuddles, belly-raspberries and tickles than there are stars in the sky to demonstrate my love for them.

But to me there is an unsurmountable poetry to those three basic words:

 I. Love. You.

As a mother, my heart literally feels as though it could explode, such is the power of the feeling I have toward my children. To me though, the words speak just as loud as the actions, and I tell my children I love them each and every day.

And of course, their cuddles and kisses and the way their little faces light up when they look at me speak volumes of love right back. I hope and pray it will always be this way and that I will share a pure and wonderful relationship with them for the rest of my life. I see no reason why I can't !

The other day, I was changing my 23 month-old daughter's nappy. She was lying on the changetable, squirming about (as per usual) when she suddenly stopped, looked up at me and said clearly and simply: "I love you".

Totally unprovoked. And for the very first time.

Santa, you've already brought me my Christmas present. I can't see how anything you could bring me could top that.

Fern, I love you too. So much. Thankyou for blessing me with the family I always dreamed of and filling my heart with so much joy. You (to steal the words from a dodgy movie) complete me.

Can you remember the first time your child told you they loved you? Did your heart melt like an icecream in the sun?

Being Thankful

I know we don't celebrate Thanksgiving here in Australia but one should never turn down an opportunity to be thankful so today I would like to say thank you to all the wonderful friends I have made through my blog - I never could have imagined that people could be so sweet and excited about the little things I do!  Even this week I have been so amazed by the wonderful comments - it is like a little present every time a message pops up in my inbox.

It is funny isn't it that Thanksgiving falls a month before Christmas when life appears to be so hectic - I guess it is a timely reminder to stop and be thankful - appreciate and enjoy.  So to everyone who visits me here I would like to say THANK YOU - you make my day.

The November Chronicles: What's on my fridge?

Can you believe a whole October went by and I didn't take photos of my fridge? What's wrong with me?

I know my Fridge Chronicles are probably a little bit boring, but just skip over the post if you're yawning. I like it. The things that accumulate on the fridge are either very important, or very random. Either way, it's a record of life in Maxabellaland and I do treasure it. So please, bear with me.

One of the Secret Blogging Business bits that I hardly mention is just how generous bloggers are. I have won some AMAZING giveaways from some AMAZING blogs.  I received a gorgeous "Carried away by Bats" print from Candace Jean via Rik Rak Studio giveaway. She sent me this sweet note on beautifully illustrated stationery. You gotta love bloggers.

Then there are all the delightful things you can buy from shops like Lark and Rudy and the Dodo. I just love online shopping. The variety. The hunt. The handmade. Once I got over the need to 'touch things' I haven't looked back. The way most stores package their goodies is like getting a birthday gift in the mail (except, you know, you bought if for yourself...)

Capper's friend Lola sent her a thank you letter after coming to her Mermaid Party. Her favourite thing at the party was the "Earthquakes". This is where LOML lies on the trampoline with 27 kids and bounces them all over the place. Many squeals and much laughter later, he collapses with exhaustion. Bless that fun-loving LOML.

Another month, another party invite. This time it was Blake's party up the road. Maxi-Taxi was a bit out of his element (he only knew a couple of the boys) so he instantly regressed into skirt-clinger mode. I had a lovely time being that "mum who won't just do the drop off". You know That Mum.

I was Door Bitch at the School Disco. "Is your mum or dad outside? No? Well, get back in there and have FUN, you hear me?" Some of those kids were downright sneaky, pretending to have a Mum or Dad waiting outside so they could go play on the play equipment. But don't worry, they were soon off my list.

Don't be fooled by the $5 entry fee. I didn't get away from that place without a $23 hole in my pocket.
sausage sizzle for kids and parents!!! glow bracelets! treats! drinks! iceblocks!

So, tell me, what's on your fridge / noticeboard / calendar / head this month?*

* I'm not doing the linky anymore. I can't take the pain of a massive white space under my announcement with an average of 3 people linking up. I'm just not strong enough...

I am Thankful.

I am so thankful for many things in my life. It's not just during the Holidays when I realize this. I very often think to myself how lucky I am. This would be a very long post if I listed everything, and possibly quite boring to most people, so here's the short version!

I am thankful for...

My husband. I don't know where I'd be without him! He means everything to me. I'm so lucky to have met him at the age of only fourteen. We are one of those few first true loves who made it, who beat the odds. We literally grew up together and have gained so much strength as a couple through the years. I'm so proud of how far we have come. We still have a lifetime ahead of us that I look forward to every day.

Our family. All of our Siblings, Parents, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. I'm grateful for all of them! They have affected us in positive ways which have led us to make good decisions in life. My Nephews and Nieces (all five of them!) make me smile daily and I love them with all my heart.  I'm very lucky to not only have a wonderful family, but a wonderful second family.

My friends. Some I have known my entire life, some since high school, some I've known for only a few years. They're each very important to me. Many have been there for me through thick and thin. They're great people to be around and I'm happy to call them my friends. We've shared belly-aching laughs, tears of joy, and tears of sadness. It's always a great time when we're together. We have so many memories that I'll never ever forget. I love my girls (and guys)! They're the best anyone could ask for.

My puppy. I can't imagine my life without her. She's such a great dog. How many dogs will sleep in with you until 11am without making a peep?! or not have to eat at a specific time? or has been fully potty-trained since 3 months old? Okay, I'll stop bragging ;)  Plus she's my best companion when hubby works. I love her sooo very much.

Our house that gives us great comfort every day. We were very blessed to become homeowners at fairly young ages (21 & 22)!  I love this place we call our home. It's so warm and inviting, peaceful and relaxing (at least till a baby comes along!). I'm very proud of it, even if it does take a chunk of our income!

Photobucket
Our jobs, in many ways. I work at my parents company that they founded in '88. Through their hard work my siblings and I had a great life growing up. It put food on our table and clothes on our bodies, enrolled us in every sport imaginable, helped pay for our first cars, got us through college, and enabled us have family vacations. So my job is much more than a 9-5 prison just to get a paycheck. I care very much about it. Jimmy has a very stable career with great benefits and good pay. It has provided us with enough to pay our bills and go on vacations on occasion. So thankful for that.

That's already a lot to be thankful for and there is honestly so much more. But I would go on and on forever! I hope everyone has a very Happy Thanksgiving, filled with family, love, and yummy food! Enjoy every minute of it!

O Christmas Tree

O Christmas Tree O Christmas Tree You fill all hearts with gaiety!!!

Putting up the Christmas Tree is my favourite part of Christmas!  As soon as I moved in with Rob and I had my first home of my own our Christmas Tree was the only thing on my mind! Mum knew how important this was to me so her and dad bought us our very own Christmas tree back in 2007! We searched and searched for the perfect one until finally finding 'Our Tree' The decorations are just as important! I am not a tinsel girl and you will not see tinsel anywhere near my tree! I am more of a traditional decorator and every single decoration has been chosen with a lot of thought and care! Each year I add more to our collection so hopefully in a few years it will be complete! I have all of my Christmas decorations that I made or received in my past...even a decoration my year 1 teacher gave to me! My dad has made me a decoration for each year I have had my own tree and has put the year on it! These 3 are very special to me and I hope to collect them for a lifetime!

I love traditions! My Christmas traditions are very important to me! Thankfully Rob loves and supports this. Even though I can be very extremely crazy with it at times. He just smiles and nods and goes along with it all because he knows how much it means to me! This year I wanted to start our own tradition. It is our first Christmas as a married couple which is so very special to me! I suggested to Rob that we put the Christmas tree up on the 25th of November...that way the tree is up for a month before Christmas! Adding on a little extra week just to enjoy the beauty and magic of our tree. You know that loving supporting husband I described above....GONE! He put his foot down and said that it was tradition to put it up on the 1st! I want tradition...that's the tradition. We put our cases to each other for a few days after this argument words until I gave in and didn't push any further. After all what was a week anyway? Putting it up on the 1st will be fine!!!

Tonight I came out of the living room and found AAALLLLLL of the Christmas decorations, lights and tree out of the roof and spread out on the floor. Ummmmmmm the 1st is another week away! "Yes but the 25th is tomorrow so we better get organised" he said! All I could do was give him the BIGGEST hug I could with a few tears in my eyes! He said that tomorrow we have been married 7 months so what a perfect way to celebrate! Did I mention what an amazing, thoughtful, loving, supportive husband I have??? Oh I love him!!

So tomorrow we are putting our tree up! We have our new K family tradition where our tree goes up on November 25. I can't wait to put on Mariah Carey's Christmas album (another tradition Rob suffers through :-P ) and put up our gorgeous tree!

When do you put your Christmas Tree up?? Are you a traditional decorator (Who set these traditions anyway?) and put it up on December 1? Do you put it up earlier? Do you have any family traditions of your own? Do you make it a big deal? A family event? Do you have an angel or a star? Who puts this on top of the tree?

Hush Autumn/Fall 2010

Hush
Star pyjamas by Hush
Sloppy Joe dress by Hush
Vintage rose pyjamas by Hush
Pure Silk pyjamas by Hush
Striped bed socks by Hush
This week for my 'shops i love' page I bring you Hush, my favourite Luxe loungewear boutique for pyjamas, robes, and knitted accessories. I just adore their comfy but flattering cotton flannel pyjamas, with a wide leg low rise trouser and oversized shirt with scoop hem and breast pocket. They are perfect for chilly nights in front of the fire. I admit to having quite a few pairs that arrive in a matching bag, enveloped in tissue paper and placed in the chicest of gift boxes. How can a girl resist that?

Have a sweet day!
