Everything's comin' up...

There are two mottos that we live by here in Maxabellaland (thanks Jess!).

1. This too shall pass.

and

2. Just do it and it's done.

My day yesterday was not so good. My day today is much better. A good night's sleep (it's true, the Tsunamis do occasionally get with the programme) and a lovely cup of tea at a fellow school mum's house and everything's coming up roses.

Which is really why motto number 1 exists. Just when you think you're at breaking point, you take a deep breath, repeat the motto and somehow endure. And this, too, passes.

Motto number 2 is an attempt to beat our natural urge to procrastinate (see here for details). Every now and then, when something's hanging around that we've been talking about doing for ages, we repeat the motto and just get the bastard done. And it's done.

I know they're not the most inspirational mottos in the world, but they help me get through life feeling a little bit better about most things. Do you have mottos like these that you live by?

Party Planning ~ Bits and Pieces

All the bits and pieces for Indi's party are coming together - here are a few of the things I have collected for next week - now to tie it all together and make it work!

The invitation with the cute bunny theme

Yes those lovely bottles which I finally found after scouring/phoning/harrasing every Woolworth's in Sydney - now drinkng loads of fruit nectar so I can have them empty and clean to re-use next week! (Thank you to everyone who emailed to let me know exactly where they had seen them making my search a little easier)

Ribbon, Ribbon, Ribbon ...

Those lovely sugar swizzle sticks that Jordan at Polkadot Prints found and let me know to head in to the local Aldi store to find!

The beginning of the dessert table ...

Still so much to do ... but having fun doing it.

Heaven Sent Indeed

Last night I was privileged to watch Australian Story on ABC 1. I don't always remember to watch the 30 min show, but when I do remember I have never been disappointed. Last night was no exception. If you missed it last night, I urge you to watch the repeat on Saturday at 12.30 pm, or go to the link to download. Hope this link works for you.

Peter is the "harp specialist" - the nickname his daughters used - he plays the harp for terminally ill patients in the hospice and to babies in the Special Care Nursery. He is Australia's only thanatologist.

Peter wanted more from his life than being a successful business owner, he wanted to give back and wasn't sure how, until one day he saw an ad for a course in America. His beautiful wife and daughters helped Peter make it happen.

This is a family of beautiful and generous souls, they inspire me with their love and support for each other.

Watching Peter talk of the journey he is on, made my breath catch in my throat. Here is a man that is so sensitive, so caring, so giving - how wonderful that he is there for many as they pass from this life. I will be honest and tell you I shed a tear while watching him talk.

Whenever a baby is born in the hospital he works in they now play a few notes of Brahms Lullaby - in the future they may also do a similar thing when a person dies. It is a reminder for all the staff and other who know that birth and death are all part of our journey.

Sugar, Spice and All Things Nice...

Lately, I've been dreaming about the transition between Fern's nursery to her first real bedroom. When I was initially designing her nursery (featured here), I felt sad that one day she would eventually grow out of it... but now 17 months on, I'm kind of looking forward to it! Imagine no change table... no nappies... no stinky bins... bring it!

Today, I stumbled upon a gorgeous Brazilian blog called Casamenteiras. Unfortunately, the site is not written in English but I found more than enough eye candy to keep me entertained! And amongst the offerings was this gorgeous little-girl bedroom which I would like to pick up and drop straight into Fern's room. Because this room is everything I dream of for my own little girl. And it's given me muchos inspirationos!

Check it out:

I'm really into the fruit-tingle pink/ yellow/ tangerine colour palette at the moment (just look at yesterday's party post!) and that gorgeous mix of modern and vintage has my mouth simply watering! And isn't that candy coloured stripe around the bottom of the room simply adorable? This one is definitely going into my inspiration file...

... meanwhile I feel a bit guilty for the extreme girly emphasis on this blog (I'll work on it, I promise!) so here's a v cute boy's room from the same site that might just keep me out of trouble for now:

If I'd known it was a 24 hour posting... part two.

This afternoon, this is me. I don't want to bleat on about bloody annoying colleagues, so I won't. But I would just like to point out that the last time I had a decent conversation at work, Howard was in government. Maybe the two are related, maybe they're not, but I am postal.

Any new suggestions for reigning in wayward colleagues?
