The World's Easiest Artwork

I went to the gym this morning - early - and felt so invigorated from the experience that afterward I was inspired to create the following 'birdie' artwork:

Wanna know how I did it?
A couple of months back, I purchased a turquoise placemat for about $8. I got it home... and then wasn't sure what to do with it. It spent some time on the coffee table, then I leaned it up against the wall for a bit and after that it just sat around in a cupboard waiting for a rainy day and some inspiration. Well, it rained today!
Here's the original placemat:

I bought this cheapo canvas for $5.50:

... and while my poppit was sleeping, glued the two together with a bit of super glue!
I know, you are amazed by my artistic prowess. You don't have to say it.

Anyway, here it is again on the wall in Ferny's (congested) room. I will get around to editing the room at some point, probably when I redesign it into a 'little girl' room rather than a nursery. Until such time, its an eclectic goody bag of fun!

Have a great weekend...

Scumble Goosie

Paneling at Scumble Goosie
I had looked at the Scumble Goosie website countless times and, on a recent trip to the Cotswolds, stopped in.

Scumble Goosie sells hand made Gustavian style furniture using solid sustainable hardwood, either painted or ready to paint, that never looks dated. From the website:

"The Gustavian style blends marvelously well with all types of interiors, from northern castles to cottages, from town houses to Versailles where it originated.

Pared down, refined and harmonious, the Gustavian style is in fact a Swedish interpretation of some of the late eighteenth & early nineteenth century French designs in Versailles, inspired from a number of original pieces and from contemporary drawings."

It totally lived up to my expectations and I just love the fact that you can paint the furniture yourself or, if you're not feeling brave, they'll do it for you!

They also had a new collection of cachepots, key racks, waste bins, trays, letter racks, trugs and peg rails ready to paint. Ooh, the possibilities!

Have a sweet day!

Let Sleeping Babes Lie...

So, this afternoon I popped Fern down in her cot round 1pm-ish, her normal afternoon nap time. An hour later, I was still hearing noises from her room which is highly unusual. Normally, even if she puts in a half-hearted fuss about going to sleep she still goes to sleep within 10 minutes or so.

When I say noises, they weren't crying noises, and were soft enough that I figured she must have woken from her sleep early and was now calling out to me.

This is what I found when I entered the nursery:

At first glance, there's not much wrong with this picture. But what you need to know is that when I put Fern to bed:

- The quilt was hanging over the side of the cot

- The mosquito net was draped evenly on the wall behind the cot

- The teddy bear was sitting in the top right-hand corner

- The pillows and owl were also neatly stacked at the top end

- My daughter was safely ensconced in her Safe-T-Sleep, unable to sit or stand until I unwrapped her. Or until she took matters (and the velcro) into her own hands...

I couldn't help but laugh. I grabbed the camera and quickly snapped these pics. Then, I climbed into the cot and lay down next to Fern and we played for a little while before I climbed back out, reinstated everything and ordered her back to sleep.

Just another day in the Cleary household...
