Breast Check

Last night I was watching a news show and it had a report about a singer with breast cancer. We see this terrible disease effecting gorgeous women every single day. Beautiful and healthy women falling victim to this viscous cancer. We don't know why and we don't know how, it's just one of those heart breaking things in life that leaves us with all the questions in the world and no answers. Unfortunately it saddens my heart that there is no cure for this cancer.  Every day we see advertisements, news reports and billboards reminding us to check our breasts. I used to see these, hear these, think for a few moments and then go along with my daily routine, go along with my life. I know we are drilled by doctors, society, mums, nurses and celebrities to check our selves but for some reason I just never took notice. I am 24 years old and I am not naive enough to know that it couldn't happen to me but stupidly I haven't taken action.  Every 2 years when I get my pap smear my doctor checks my breast but a lot can happen in 2 years and a cancer can grow aggressively in 2 years.

So tonight after a lot of research (thank you google) I did my first breast check! It hurt so much. Maybe I'm pressing too hard but I am sure that over time the muscles in my breasts will get used to the pushing and prodding and it will become a monthly routine. At the moment I am feeling and learning about how they feel and the normal bits and bobs inside the muscles so that i know what is normal. This way if ever (god forbid) I feel an abnormal bump I will know straight away.

We are told every day and by so many different people to know our bodies and listen to our bodies and I feel this is a big step in getting to know your body.

When was the last time you checked your breasts??? Get onto google or ask you doctor and get feeling, learning and checking! It could save your life!!!

warmth in the air

today there was a taste of Summer in the air which always reminds me to find the picnic basket & get it ready for late nights on the beach. those really hot nights when no-one can sleep so the best place to be is by the water on the sand.

Cocktails at Naptime -- Book Giveaway!

Firstly, to everyone who played along with my 'Show it Like it is' challenge over the weekend -- thankyou! I had so much fun reading your posts... though it must be said, your kitchens weren't in anywhere near as bad a state as you might have thought! Isn't it funny how someone elses mess seems never quite as bad as your own... stay tuned, I'll have another such challenge for you soon!

Now, as a thankyou for being such good sports and because I'm in a giving mood... today I'm offering a copy of the fabulously funny Cocktails at Naptime by Gillian Martin and Emma Kaufmann to a BM3 reader; I won the book from Maxabella recently and devoured it whole in 2 days flat. So, instead of gathering dust on the bookshelf I thought I'd share the joy and pass the book onto YOU! My only rule is, when you are finished you yourself must give the book away on your own blog, or if you don't have a blog you must pass it on to a needy friend! Is it a deal?

To win this book, simply follow my blog and leave a comment telling me one story about parenting no book told you...  I'll be drawing the winner randomly at 5pm on Friday 26 November but I'll have a lot of fun reading your anecdotes and we can all share a laugh!

Here's a little bio about the book to whet your appetite:

A laugh-out-loud, utterly realistic examination of all the things that can happen to your mind, your body, your partner and your relatives after the birth of a new baby. There are secrets that no baby book will tell you, stories that no parenting magazine will even touch with a set of forceps. And that's a shame because out of postnatal nastiness and the human struggle with sleep-deprivation, couch stainage and perineum bruising, comes forth humour; lots of it.
Read about how real mums try to lose their baby weight and learn how Mothers of History dealt with getting their figure back, discover how to transform your partner into a sex symbol using only household bleach and a pair of rubber gloves, sing along to a selection of politically incorrect nursery rhymes and find out how to recognise (and avoid becoming) a stereotypical "Mummy From Hell".
Cocktails at Naptime is a hilarious look at those first twelve months (from birth to back-to-work) and the perfect antidote to the "how to" parenting manuals and the glut of "girlfriend" books. It gives you a hug, a parenting tip or two and an enthusiastic nod to having a big glass of chardonnay.

Good luck! x

Ms Nosybella: What would you...?

Hello Kind (or not so? Read on...) Readers

There was an incident at my place a weekend or so ago. Let's just say that I lost my temper and made my MIL cry (a little bit). I felt like such a bully. It's an ugly, ugly side of me that I have never embraced but seem unable to be free of.

Fortunately, I can count on... three hands the number of times I've lost my temper and barked at someone. But I would love to change my fiery, redhead ways if I could. That and keeping my big mouth shut when it's not my turn to speak. And my incessant need for instant gratification has to go too. Oh and I wouldn't mind being a lot more patient when it comes to teaching my children new things. Plus I talk to much. I go on and on and on and... well, you know that already.

My question this time is: what would you change about yourself if you could?

'Til next time

More Much Love Monday here.

Love these springy pillows of pink and white sugary goodness. To find an unopened packet in the cupboard is unheard of, but it happened today. Only one thing left to do...

Home Sweet Home

This weekend was a lovely change to our usual go go go weekends. We had a wonderful balance of home and family time with a few outings here and there. Even though I LOVE all of our adventures and trips we go on I am so happy as I sit here on a Sunday night looking back on a beautiful weekend.

~ Happy 30th to my amazing cousin ~

Last week my cousin turned the big 3 0. Unfortunately because of work commitments I could not make her birthday lunch or cake on her actual birthday so on Friday night her husband and 2 children and Rob and I went out for dinner to celebrate. Cassi and I have always been close and when we young EVERYONE used to ask if we were sisters . Over the past few years Cass and I have become extremely close and I am very lucky because she lives 5 houses down from us. She is always there for me when I need her help, advice or just a shoulder to cry on. I am so lucky to have a beautiful person in my life and I love growing up with a beautiful family.

Saturday morning was spent cleaning and working around the house. Normally I would mumble and grown about this job however on Saturday I loved just working away with the music up loud and taking pride in our beautiful little home. I love it so much! I'm so lucky. While I was cleaning Rob was outside working on our green house. He was putting on the finishing touches and making the gate.

After getting the house back into order I had a date with our couch and our Wedding photos. I got all of our photos printed out on Friday - all 600 of them - I didn't really think and realise how many 600 photos were but let me tell you IT'S A LOT. So I spent the afternoon sorting, reminiscing, categorising and placing all the photos into our new album. I only got though 10 pages....50 to go hahah

 ~ so many photos ~

Rob and I spent some special time together on Saturday afternoon and then we went out to dinner with our friends. It was Emily's birthday so we went out for dinner and had a dance after. There was an amazing band playing and I enjoyed letting loose and dancing up a storm. Even if I was the only one on the dance floor!

Sunday we relaxed!!!

We didn't wake up untill 11am  which was a lovely sleep in and then we hung out with our puppies in the yard and chilled out in front of a movie.

Sunday night I ran myself a relaxing bath and enjoyed a sneaky pop tart and my favourite book!

~ A beautiful ending to a beautiful weekend ~
