Feted, not jarred

I'm nuts about school fetes. The cake stalls, the white elephant, the dinky games involving hacky sacks and tin cans. The sheer old-school at school fun of it all.

I've been busy getting creative with jars and stuff to make jars for the 'Jarbola'. I didn't even know what a Jarbola was until Cappers carefully explained that it was when you get a jar of pasta sauce and you eat the sauce and then you put stuff in it but you have to clean it first and then you get a ticket on it and the winner of that ticket gets that jar.

Oh, like a bottle raffle. With clean jars. I get that.

The Badoo and I created six jarbolas to take in tomorrow. A jar of soliders; a jar of glow-in-the-dark dinosaurs; a jar of hair thingies (all pink, this is the Badoo in charge after all!); a jar of sherberts (pink); a jar of mini-chuppa chups (mostly the black ones because we don't really like the black ones around here); and a jar of pretty jewellery (pink, pink, all pink). We made little tags to add a bit of school fair festivity.

If I could fill my fantasy Jarbola jar, I would fill it with Benefit Benetint in rose, Eve Lom Cleanser, Creme de la Mer and Moroccon Oil.

What would you put in your fantasy Jarbola jar?

I'm linking up to Our Creative Spaces this week. I know filling jars with stuff isn't exactly creative,
but I'll take what I can get!

A nostalgic Breakfast

When I was a teenage misfit in my beachy-country-westie hometown, I got really into Cold Chisel in a big way. (Okay, so maybe not such a misfit after all.) Their music grabbed me at sixteen and it's still grabbing me today.

I think when I was a squeaky-clean youngster it was all about the promise of a life that seemed so grown-up and a bit grubby. It appealed to my Vader Side - that reckless, wandering side of me that has always been there and would later be brightened occasionally by hard drink and loud music and late, late nights.

These days it's just that I know their music so well that I think I'm in the band.

What music makes you nostalgic for your youth?

The Tolix Chair

I love the Tolix chair! How stylish did it look in yesterday's post, Craft room ideas? I would love one for my craft room in a silver steel or duck egg blue which I think would look great with my 1930's polished steel filing cabinet.

The Tolix Chair is a French café chair designed in 1934 by Xavier Pauchard. A visionary and inventive entrepreneur, Xavier was a pioneer of galvanisation in France and manufactured sheet metal domestic items. In 1927 he registered the trademark Tolix and started to manufacture chiars, stools and metal funiture.

The Tolix chair is well renowned for being rustproof, robust and stackable. As such, in the forties it was found inside factories, offices and hospitals and outside in cafés and parks. Now an icon of industrial aesthetics, it has earned itself a spot in Vitra Design Museum, MOMA and the Pompidou Center.

Have a sweet day!
autumn escape . . . part two (the chicken coop)

the more time we spent by the chicken coop ... the more i want one ...
so much to discover and so many sweet questions asked by this little boy who loves nothing more than using the words explore and adventure.
chickens following us, eggs laid and collected, feathers, seed pods and autumn leaves now part of our autumn display at home ...

... so much adventure had and so much to explore ...
so much mystery down by the coop

than 4 of our little feathery friends ~

  • She is now approx. the size of a baby doll! More than 11 inches long and weighs over a pound.
  • Some noises are becoming familiar now! Such as my voice, Roxy barking, dishes clanging, or the vacuum running.
  • Fat accumulation is picking up pace, she will double in weight the next four weeks.
  • She is starting to practice breathing with amniotic fluid by sucking in and out of her lungs.

*camera phone pictures due to laziness. apologies for the toilet back drop*

As much as I hate to complain about anything related to the little miracle inside me...Ouch, the back.  There are days that no matter what I do I can never get relief, even in my bed or relaxing on the couch. Also the calves and ankles...what in the world? I think I stood way too long one day and had so much discomfort/pain by the evening I had to sit and prop them up. They felt swollen (didn't really look like it though). I thought it was too early for all that! I'm so in for it. Otherwise, I feel pretty good! I'm loving that I can eat whatever and I haven't gotten sick in weeks. Bad thing is I'm beginning to crave soda. The whole first half of my pregnancy I never cared for it. Now is a different story... along with a lot of sweets, eek. Not to worry I still dig the healthy stuff as well. I have my 24 week check up on Friday so I will know how much weight I have gained then. I'm pretty sure I'm not up about 3lbs total. We'll see how accurate I am though!
