snap happy

I don't know about you but when we embark on a road trip I love to sit in the passengers seat, control the stereo, hand out the snacks, keep an eye on the speedo! & snap away with my camera to capture the memories. Yes I even take photos of passing traffic.

When we stop to stretch all 8 legs I still have the camera in hand to continue the story.

Now you can have a little taste of our recent road trip, up a mountain covered in tree ferns & bushland. It was a great weekend getaway. & next time you are a passenger in a car - get snap happy too!

Seven

My big girl is seven today

It feels like just yesterday she was that amazing gift I held in arms for the first time.  The shining light at the end of a very long and dark tunnel.

Larger than life is our Sienna - exhausting at times but with the kindest of hearts
Pink has been replaced by blue as I am told "pink is babyish you know mum"
The entertainer in the family - she is destined to be on the stage
Carefree and happy go lucky!

Happy Birthday my beautiful girl - we love you to the moon and back!

This week for my 'shops i love' page I bring you a long time favourite of mine, After Noah. I recently visited their store in Islington and fell in love with the kids section. I had always visited their other store on the Kings Road which is great for interiors. Well, the kids section in Islington is magical! It makes you feel like you are seven again with the vast array of old fashioned toys and games that will make you exclaim "Do you remember that!, I do!".

There is a sweetie counter full of old fashioned classic favourites, like sherbet dib-dabs, sherbet fountains and big colourful swirly lollipops. They have a kids play kitchen area which is where I picked up the adorably cute mini Nutella jar, Fairy washing up liquid bottle and a multi pack of mini packaging boxes amongst the shelves and baskets of treasures. Molly loved them and they now sit on a little shelf in her play kitchen which she constantly re-arranges.

This shop is a must-visit shop as you can't help but leave with a big smile on your face!

Have a sweet day!

The Sphinx Effect

All this talk on my blog about what's 'real'. I remember when LOML and I first saw The Sphinx in Egypt and it was beyond disappointing. You know how you see all those Egyptian photos like this...

... and the Sphinx looks really enormous?

Well, it's not.

It's only about the size of a truck - a bit bigger than dump truck, a bit smaller than a Pajero. Having associated this gigantic Sphinx with the majesty of Egypt for so long it was... disappointing to find that one could walk around it in about 15 seconds. The pyramids were at least 100 times bigger.

From that moment on when something on our travels did not live up to its reputation, we decided it was suffering from "The Sphinx Effect".

The Sphinx Effect was in operation across the world.

Big Ben was... just a clock and not a particularly big one at that. Having viewed it for herself and finding it afflicted by The Sphinx Effect, my mother continues to call it 'Little Ben' to this day.

Have you ever been to the Pantheon in Rome?

It looks like a building worthy of some space and landscaping, right? Sadly it's actually cramped into the busiest piazza imaginable and the stunning view above is achieved through the doors of the Maccas 5 metres across the road.

While there are many, many other examples of the Sphinx Effect in operation, we'll stay in Italy and visit the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Again, looks huge. Reality is that it is just a rather small marble bell tower that was lucky enough to be built on sinking land. Due to the Sphinx Effect and the fact that the attraction is plagued with health and safety issues, I am worried that its days as a popular tourist destination may be numbered.

The Manneken Pis, Den Lille Havfrue, Stonehenge, the Spanish Steps, Venus de Milo... and The Sphinx Effect is not even exclusive to the not-so-wonders of the world. So much of life is afflicted by it. A longed for party that turns out to be excruciatingly dull? Sphinx Effect. A 'you've got to meet her, you'll really, really like her' person* who you 'really, really don't'? Sphinx Effect.

I could go on. Let's face it, life is disappointing and the Sphinx Effect is rampant.
Have you had any memorable encounters?

* It is my experience that whenever someone says this to you about someone, you really must go out of your way not to meet them. It never ends well.

CHALKCLOTH - Licence to Draw on Your Own Kids!

If your kids are like mine and are like bees to a honeypot where crayons, textas, paint, pencils and CHALK are concerned... you might like my new bm3 clothing concept! My darling daughter Fern takes any opportunity to draw all over walls, furniture, appliances, herself... generally when Im in the shower and have mistakenly left a drawing stick of some description lying about...

... but now you can seek your own revenge for those hours spent scrubbing pen off the lounge by drawing all over your children with chalk!!

I didn't find the shopping all that amazing when I was over in NZ...  but I did manage to squeeze this amazing chalkcloth into my suitcase! I couldnt resist! Chalkcloth is an amazing product that works just like a chalkboard -- you just draw on it with chalk and then wipe it off with a cloth!

I've designed a girl's and boy's onesie to start with so you can pronounce the birth of your baby; it's age (what an easy alternative for the "monthly sticker" idea!); a favourite poem, a quote, a drawing...... really, the possibilities are only limited by your own imagination! The shape can be adapted to anything you like: a letter,a number; a silhouette...

I can also adapt this idea to a boy or girl singlet or tee -- if you are interested and I havn't listed it yet, just ask me!

Each outfit comes with "giftwrapped" piece of chalk (so you can get started straight away), and I'll giftwrap the whole outfit for you if you ask me nicely!

Here it is -- there's nothing like this out there; I've checked! Get your original chalkcloth outfit from Bubby Makes Three -- and if you order this week, I'll even give you a 10% discount: enter CHALKPROMO1 until midnight Sunday 22 August in my store to redeem!

Here 'tis -- would love to know what you think:

joy!

Dad is finally home from a long hospital stint having conquered another of life's "little setbacks". No stranger to ill health, he leads by example in the quietest of ways.

Back in Sydney and into the third trimester  - eeek - feeling time fly and my centre of gravity shift. Still disorganised...yet to fork out the cash for a new car seat, or collect the beautiful Miyo hammock my generous friend is lending us. Dan is continually awesome and says he can't wait to hold our second baby soon. And here sits Lily - joy personified as she slides down a hill and beams at the sky.
