Fancy Flours

Today on "shops I love", I am featuring four online boutiques that are full of a baker's dream goodies.

The UK based Planet Bake has a wide variety of creative baking and partyware supplies, from pretty cupcake boxes to sugar craft equipment.

The Cake Decorating Company has an enormous catalogue of delights. For the cake pop enthusiasts there are sticks and wrappers, candy melts and cake pop stands for displaying your latest creations. They also sell the trendy new cake push-up containers and can print your photos and designs onto edible paper! Oh, and they also sell edible shimmery ribbon - how neat is that?

Across the pond there is Bake it Pretty, which was started by blogger Amanda who struggled to find stylish, unique, and retro baking supplies. Her store started out as an Etsy store in 2006 and now she has her very own brick and mortar boutique in downtown Asheville, North Carolina.

Also in the US is Fancy Flours, a site dedicated to edible art and they are passionate about all things related to sugar crafting. They sell over fifty shades of glitter and edible dust, along with cake, cookie and candy moulds, and the prettiest packaging supplies from treat boxes, bakers twine to cake stands and cupcake holders.

Making rainbow tutus

I think we've established many times over that I am slightly mad, especially when it comes to children's parties.

Which explains why I am chest-deep in tulle creating 22 rainbow tutus for Cappers' upcoming Rainbow Party. Make that 23 as I was requested to make a tutu for Cappers' 'puppy' while I was at it.

Oh my, it's so much work but oh-extra-my they are going to be so beautiful!

And cheap. Tulle on sale at about $2 a metre works out to be about $3 a tutu including the satin ribbon. You've gotta love that! They are so very easy to make - no sewing involved. Check out this tutorial from Paige and Brooke. I a wide satin ribbon instead of elastic for the waist band (the ribbon ties in a bow at the back and looks lovely) and I'm making mine shorter than the tutorial suggests as I wanted that 'corps de ballet' effect with the tutu standing straight up. Plus, when you're making 22 of the darn things, every little bit of tulle saved is a blessing really.

I had the thought that 'make a matching tutu for your doll' could be a fun party craft, but Cappers' really struggled with making the knot and I didn't fancy sitting at the party making 22 doll's tutus for everyone, so I scrapped that idea.

I'll show you all the pretty rainbow maids all in a row when I post about the party in a couple of weeks time.

Are you mad for parties like me?
Do you also like to go that bit further to do something extra special?

Ahoy! You there! Master renovator -- I need YOU!

If you squint your eyes a little bit and use a LOT of imagination..... do you reckon you can visualise this space as a light 'n' bright, gorgeously styled mini-studio, extra bedroom/ kids playroom with ensuite?!

I must admit, I'm finding it difficult. But have I just lost my mojo?

Folks, this ill-used, back-of-double-garage, cockroach infested once-storage room is destined for great things. And soon. Because Bubby Makes Three is literally taking over my house and I literally. cant. cope. any more!!

Its the length of a double garage and a few metres wide (do you love how I have measured it out so accurately?). I can't find my measuring-tape. Fern was 'measuring the lounge' and then it disappeared. Into Fern's abyss. grr.

Yesterday, the space was ransacked. We took everything out - everything that was left from our recent ebay pillage, that is! We ripped up the carpet (I use the term 'carpet' loosely!) and I stood at one end trying to work it all out. And struggled. I'm still struggling.

This is what it looked like before we cleared it out (and bear in mind, I've not let anyone see this room in 5 years so its a big deal for me to be broadcasting this disaster zone across the internet!!)

this end...

...and that end
But once we cleared (most of) it out and I took a Nurafen to clear the headache we were left with this:

Does this look like a beautiful, creative space just waiting to happen?

Help, folks, someone is coming over tomorrow to give me a quote to build walls and plaster bricks and the like, and I have no idea what I'm asking for!

What would you do if this was YOUR space and you needed 3 rooms in one? Got any inspiration you can send me or refer me to?

Thanks in advance!! x

ps. I do have paint. Bought it a few weekends ago. Dulux were giving away a tin of jelly-beans with every 8 ltrs sold. SOLD, folks! Nope, didn't bother with test swatches. Got Dulux Lexicon half-strength just because it looked bright and white and merrily carried it and my tin of jelly beans away from the store. Wondering how long it takes to inhale a tin of jelly-beans? In case you think that is about a years-worth, think again. I literally ate my way through a tin of jelly beans in two weeks flat. Even the black ones. Them I went and had a filling put in my mouth. But it was worth it... damn good jelly beans, they were........ x

Winter Wonderland dessert table ideas

Winter Wonderland dessert table ideas by Torie Jayne

Last year I created a Winter Woodland dessert table with a snowy white gingerbread bird house, reindeer decorated Christmas cake and a cookie tree as centre pieces, and glass Christmas tree jars full of woodland inspired candy like coconut mushrooms and chocolate twigs.

This year I want to create a Winter Wonderland dessert table with a pretty gingerbread bird house, with a bird cage shaped Christmas cake and an ornate Christmas cookie tree as the centre pieces. Flanked with candy filled jars, decorated cookies, cake pops and macarons in pretty pinks and aquas and a host of chocolate shaped lollipops. All of which I will be sharing here on Torie Jayne.
