Bombay Duck: A review and £50 giveaway

I was recently sent two Love Bird Cups & Saucers, a Miss Darcy Two Tier Cake Stand in white with gold spots, Love Heart Cake Set and Love Letter Cake Moulds from the sweet peeps at Bombay Duck. How exciting!

With Valentine's day just around the corner, I decided to make gluten-free Victoria sandwich cakes to fill my new moulds with. I love how they turned out and the moulds were super easy to use. I melted and coloured white chocolate to make some chunky chocolate love letters, too.

I adore the mint colour of the love birds cups and saucers and the little bird hiding at the bottom of the tea cup is so cute! They come packaged in their own pretty pink box. The gorgeous gold spot cake stand also comes in a pretty pink box and can be dismantled for storage.

My life, but not my life


The thing about this raising children business is that we can't live their life for them. When the chips are down and their little faces are creased with worry or sadness, I just want to step in there and take over the reins. Pull that great steed called Life up and say 'whoa there Life, whoooooooa'.  But I can't.

My mantra of 'I won't worry unless they worry' only works if I'm not worried. Maxi spent last Monday at home with a 'sore tummy'. I know what makes a tummy sore: frangled nerves. Because he always struggles with change (new school year, new classroom, new friends, new everything and, worse, no best friend because Elliot moved away at the end of last year) we decided to humour him. He stayed at home in bed, for the whole day. LOML was on duty. He let him out of bed for 5 minutes at 'recess' and 10 minutes at 'lunchtime' and the rest of the time he was bored out of his brain.

On Tuesday he skipped off to school with a trio of stuffed rats in his pocket, 'just in case'. In case of what, I'm not certain, but I think they were there in case he didn't have a friend in the playground. Made my heart and my bottom lip wobble. The fact that he was skipping in, the fact that he'd come up with a solution to his worries all on his own - all that was lost on a worrying mumma. My boy, he struggles. Or maybe it's me that struggles.

We can prepare them, we can love them, we can smooth their shirts and fluff their hair, but we can 't live it for them. We send them out there day after day into a world we know can often be cruel and indifferent. We try to focus on all the bright lights and the kind gestures and the fun, the games, the simple joys. But the fact remains, we are as uncertain of their path as we are of our own.

We can't live it for them. We can't even live it for us half the time. So I'm trying really hard to stuff my pockets full of rats and be happy that they're in there.

In the Press!

I'm sorry folks, I can't resist publishing this page from the new Autumn issue of Shop4Kids released in stores today... a couple of months ago, before Christmas when I was crazy-busy and literally had to diarise getting dressed else be nudey all day I was asked if I had any paisley bow-ties in my collection. I didn't, and I really didn't have time to design one..... but I did, anyway!

And I'm so glad I did. And got it to the magazine by the deadline. Because two of my bow-ties are featured in the shoot, including this one and this image which I am kinda swooning over.

Enough trumpet blowing. But chuffed all the same. xx

A Simple Rainbow

You know those days that you just sit back and think "WOW I am so lucky"! Today was one of those days! It is my beautiful best friends birthday and we spent the day with her, her husband, her beautiful new baby and a few close friends, in their amazingly perfect new home! Their home is paradise! Away from the hustle and bustle. Pure serenity! There was no fuss, there was no pressure, just friends hanging out and talking. As the minutes turned into hours and the laughs and conversations flew through the air, a beautiful black storm rolled in from over the hills. What a sight. There is nothing I love more than an amazing storm having a party in the sky! God putting on a show! The greys, the deep blues and the blacks, folding, curling and cascading into each other to form a masterpiece that always, always takes my breath away!

And just when you think it is over and God has moved onto the next show, this appears...


This moment took my breath away. It was right then, at that very moment, surrounded by my bestest friends and husband that I smiled.  I was so happy. I was so lucky.

It was nothing big, it was nothing spectacular. Just a small simple thing that absolutely filled my heart with so much joy and happiness. We must always remember this glimpse of a rainbow! No matter what we are going through, no matter how hard life seems to be, always and I mean ALWAYS remember that there is a beautiful shining rainbow in every situation. You just have to look beyond the dark grey sky to find it.
