Committing to the P&C
I'm off to the school's P&C meeting tonight. I'm always amazed at how few parents actually attend these informative and entertaining events. Nothing to do with the content, process or agenda of the meeting, of course. Rather, they're fabulously fun due to the little band of stalwarts who've been attending them since their first born lit up the school back in 1997. I swear some of these parents continued to have children just so their term on the 82 different P&C committees they run didn't have to come to an end...About committees...
I love those stalwarts, I really do. They're the core group of parents (usually less than 10 individuals) who run the canteen committee, the welcoming committee, the disco committee, the fundraising committee, the grounds committee, the uniform committee... the school, basically. Without them, our children would be attending school in a shed. (Thanks NSW Government!)
But what kind of person joins a million P&C committees in the first place?
I've been to the P&C. I've seen how fast those stalwarts put up their hands to join yet another committee. You've gotta be really, really quick on the up to beat them to the post. They want it. Oh, they'll saaaay they had to volunteer because no-one else put their hand up. But they want it.
I can only conclude (judging purely by the look of them and what they say in the meetings, mind) that they feel loved, needed and dare I say it, powerful. They are doing something that matters, for the children, for the community, for the world.
I love the P&C. It's a very entertaining place.

When our friend the magpie lands on the front lawn we know you are here watching us, loving us and supporting us.
We smile when we think of your kindness but oh we do miss you terribly.

I love the idea of a few pretty floral pieces in my new kitchen, like my Cath Kidston trays and flour shaker. On my wish list is the pretty vintage floral scales and some new floral tea towels. I would also like to add a floral doormat, but more on that later...

New Friends
Recently I got to know Shelly - funnily enough we live on opposite sides of the world but through the wonderful power of blogging and email we probably know more about what we are up to than our friends do! (We have even added each other's cities time zones to our iphones).
I first got to know a little about Shelly when I found her blog "A Bowl Full of Lemons". Unfortunately in January she had to stop this lovely blog because of other commitments. The link to her blog was on my blog roll and I kept checking in regularly to make sure it wasn't all a mistake and my blog roll was not updating. Then by chance Shelly left a comment on my blog last month and the friendship began.
Well I am pleased to say Shelly is back bloging with not just one blog but two! Shelly is a very talented writer and her blogs are wonderfully inspiring so please pop over and check her out. Le Happy is all about happiness, healthy living and uplifting your spirit while Pas de deux talks about the wonderful pairings of food and drink. New Nursery Peek... Starting at the Door!
On Saturday, Fern and I were in the car by 7.30am (no mean feat, I assure you!) to get to Mathilda's Market bright and early... We wanted to be there early, because frankly last time was a bit of a nightmare - with hundreds of frenzied women jostling for position at the front of the cupcake stall - and I didn't think I could cope both by myself and with a pram!

Maybe it was because I went by myself and didn't have a shopping wing-woman to encourage me that I really didn't buy very much at all... in fact I was a bit disappointed with my paltry purchases when I got home!
Anyway, I did manage to pick up a little something or two for the new baby's nursery (which is beginning to take shape in my head). My favourite purchase was this cloud mobile from Gifts Created:
I think it's really cute! I'd been looking for a gender-neutral door mobile for the new baby to go with Fern's gorgeous bird dream-catcher which she has on her bedroom door:
Obviously I don't know the name of the new baby yet, but I was sort of thinking it might be cute to get stencilled letters that say "reserved" in the meantime. Is that idea too kitch??
So now I have the door to the nursery underway... maybe its time I focused on the interior! Stay tuned folks, I have big plans!
