One Month Old Baby

Here she is! Getting bigger :)
DSC_0725c

The first month has been a mix of emotions. The first two weeks were probably the hardest time of my life. Now at one month, it's still hard, but we're managing better.

What's been going on....

Breastfeeding
It seemed like no matter how hard I tried (with her latching, nipple confusion, & eventually using a nipple shield) or how long I nursed her (for eight hours straight one night) she was never satisfied. Everyone says you'll feel like a cow with them attached to you nearly every hour. So I expected nursing her every 1-2 hours. But what she was doing wasn't normal. She was not getting enough and therefore would be on me every five minutes for hours and hours straight. I cried every sleepless night and and every morning where I felt like I just couldn't do it anymore. So I began supplementing. I felt like a complete failure. I hated each time she would have to suck down formula. I only want the BEST for my baby. My goal was at least six months of exclusively breastfeeding. But Addison needed a sane, happy mommy. Everyone kept telling me she would be just fine, happy mommy= happy baby. Weeks 3 and 4 I pumped during the day and nursed her at night. She ended up getting about 50/50. However after advice from my doctor, for personal reasons, I am now weaning off and she will be just on formula. Although this wasn't my plan I'm not going to continue beating myself up over it like I had been. I know she will be perfectly fine.

Sleep
What sleep? I didn't sleep for two weeks straight. It is getting better, slightly. But being sleep deprived can take a toll on you. Again, I thank my husband for helping out. I'm not quite sure how single moms do it, or moms with twins. I give them big props! She likes to eat every two hours still, sometimes she will push three hours. So we are up very often! For the most part she sleeps in her bassinet beside my bed. Occasionally I will let her sleep on me in the morning.

Sick Baby
My hub and I were sick for a day or two, sore throats & head colds. Then I noticed Addison had a very raspy voice. I could tell she wasn't feeling well. One night she just cried and cried, I knew her poor throat hurt her. But there was nothing I could do :( I just tried comforting her best I could. Two hours later she finally feel asleep. There's nothing worse then seeing your baby upset and feeling helpless. I think she's still getting through it, I'm hoping she feels better.

Love
Through all the struggles and sleepless nights, I can not imagine loving her any more. The past couple of mornings when I talk to her she lights up with a big smile right at me. My heart melts. The first time she did it made me teary eyed. I can't wait for more and more of them! And I can't wait to capture it on camera! Here's a hint of one...

one month1
There's so much I look forward to. I know I will miss this itty bitty baby one day though, so I'm trying to soak up the moments she is snuggled up on my chest and the when she wraps her tiny hand around my finger. There's nothing like it.

Items we couldn't have survived without:
The vibrating rocker that came with her pack n play. I cannot say enough about it. She sleeps in it most of the day and is usually instantly comforted. I highly recommend this device.
The sleep sheep. Addison LOVES this. It helps her sleep so much better. The only downfall is it only stays on for 45 minutes. When that time is up, so is she. But I just press the button again and she's lights out :)

Here is here "brand new" photo for comparison!

Happy Friday, sweets!

This week I'm grateful for... more birthdays

It's Rainbow Party day tomorrow. So you will find me doing rainbowy things and talking really quickly in a high-pitched, excited voice while I lead 22 children on a merry dance.

So this week I'm grateful for...

181. More birthdays* - beautiful, bountiful, beloved birthdays.

182. Deliciousness - that's the best word I can think of today to describe my husbie who is turning 43 today, 43 today, 43 today. Loving you long time so much and so much my everloving man.

183. Scrumptiousness - that's Capper's word as she celebrates her sixth birthday today with the infamous Rainbow Party and ridiculously excited mumma. On Sunday her Gran and I are taking her to see Mary Poppins which you would think would be a tremendous event in a young girl's life but she is rather terrified.

"Are they real?" she asked me.

"Yes," I reluctantly admitted.

"I don't like it when it's real," she wailed, channelling her performance at the Wiggles concert, circa 2008 when a three year old Cappers ran screaming from the room the minute the music started, wailing exactly this.

We just might take LOML instead...

* I have already been grateful for birthdays... wouldn't want to repeat myself!

So, what's making you smile today? Add your I'm Grateful For post to the list below (and please, we love you, but it really does matter that your post is a Grateful one and not just a random), add the button (grab the code from my sidebar and paste it into your post) and pretty-please add a link back to me. Then pop over to visit other bloggers who are spreading a little sunshine.

Dance like noone is watching....

Sometimes, I wish I could be two again. To take joy from the simplest of pleasures. To be uninhibited. run and dance like noone is watching. Oh to be two again...

Mini doughnut packaging supplies

Mini Doughnut packaging supplies

This week on "Wonderful World of Etsy", I wanted to share with you the fabulous Etsy shop, Avenue 55. They stock some wonderful packaging supplies, from pink and mint twist ties to the prettiest floral paper bags. I have ordered some of the ties and translucent bags to put my Christmas mini doughnuts in to give out as gifts.

Have a sweet day!

Earballs and Eyes*

I was interested in the responses to my post yesterday that talked about how well I operated under the Stress of the Leech. I have never thought about it before, but goddamn it, if you're under pressure I reckon I would be a fine woman to be holding hands with.

Here are some of the things going on in my world right now:
  • I'm on deadline to get the magazine I produce for work out the door by 18 October and the printer has stuffed up the flysheets.
  • I'm putting together the most complicated Rainbow Party in the history of the world for Saturday afternoon and it may or may not involve (depending on whether I can pull it off) 'that Whisk Kid cake'.
  • It's also my husbie's birthday on Saturday and we're having 16 adults and 57** children to dinner after the Rainbow Party - haven't shopped, don't know what I'm cooking.
  • The school hit 'publish' on the website I'm working on for them and it's only half ready and everyone knows it's me who is working on it so I'm receiving about 5 emails a minute with the subject line 'why didn't you' and 'where's my'.
  • I am also co-ordinating a cast of thousands to produce the school's annual magazine and nobody has the slightest idea what they're doing.
  • My daughter has ripped her hand to shreds doing the monkey bars.
  • I need to somehow get to the post office tomorrow to collect the flat packed chicken coop that we bought on eBay and LOML is going to put together before Sunday morning.
  • It's hair wash night for the kids.
I don't think I'm stressed yet. The hair washes might finish me off and I also just remembered that both school kids need new shoes and I like school shoe shopping about as much as I like leeches. Sometimes it's best not to have a 'To Do' list, I think...

What's going on in your life right now?
How do you manage under pressure?

* No idea why I called this post this. I don't know what it means either.
** Surely an exaggeration. Probably more like 56.

Note to self.....

its important to remember to slow down

don't worry about that massive folding pile taking over the couch

or that there is nothing for dinner and you haven't been to the gym

forget about the to-do list that is much longer than you like it to be

Sometimes its nice to change a day of running errands to just being instead.

You will remember today for the smiles of delight when she realises its ok to get wet and how many special shells were found.
Making friends with strangers because they have castle building equipment and wiping sand away from tiny little feet.
