happy wednesday

Is there such a thing as too MUCH confidence?

When you were a child, did you like to take risks? You know - leap from tall buildings to see if you could fly... perform a 'death drop' from the school monkey bars... leap from the rock shelf at the beach into the incoming waves...

did you?

My daughter is not generally a risk-taker. She tends to trip over her own feet. A lot. Its all she can do to keep upright at the best of times. She will often trip over and hit with the floor with such a thud that I swear I must have left a banana skin lying around. But no, she's tripped "over the floorboards, mum!"

Earlier this year, I enrolled Fern into Kinder-gymnastics. Turns out the be the best thing I ever did for her. The girl who cannot walk without tripping over can now walk along a balance beam a metre above the floor holding onto just one finger! She climbs and sommersaults and jumps and leaps with gusto while I watch on with muchos-mummy-pride. Gymnastics has given my daughter confidence. And she just plain loves it. So do I -- I'm secretly looking into adults classes!

But is there such a thing as too MUCH confidence? Since when did my bedhead become a launching pad and the matress a foam-pit? I have the emergency ward on speed dial. Just in case.

Candy filled stars

Candy filled stars

I love hanging candy on my Christmas year and this year is no exception. I loved how my candy filled Easter eggs turned out, so I bought some plastic stars and filled them with juicy pear, vanilla, bubblegum and blueberry flavoured Jelly Belly beans to match my colour palette.

Wash and dry the plastic stars before you start. Fill half the plastic star with as many jelly beans as you can, and carefully push the lid on top. Starting at the top of the star, wrap washi tape round the closed sides and trim off any excess. Thread ribbon through the two holes at the top of the star, and knot ends together.

Have a sweet day!

Classmates Christmas Gifts

We have been busy putting together class Christmas gifts for the girls school friends - simple clear cello bags filled with treats and a Merry Christmas Sticker with their name in on it.

Chocolate beans and jelly beans fit perfectly in this little bags which are from Pack-It-In.  I have stocked up on these little bags so if you would like a pack of 25 bags popped in with any order of chocolate beans or jelly beans leave a note on your order and we can have your class christmas favours sorted out in no time.  You can find these delicious beans in the lolly/candy section of the shop here.   If you would prefer to buy a pack of 100 cello bags they are $5 - they have been added to the lolly/candy section of the shop but will only be available until Christmas.

Hope your Christmas Shopping is coming along!

Leanne

two on a tuesday...

This one loves the bath. Most days, she's happy in the water and gets this faraway look in her eyes. It's just the two of us on Tuesday's. So this morning we enjoyed a calm bath followed by a massage and a sleep-inducing feed. There are tears, of course, but on the balance it's a quieter day. Time for extra kisses, cuddles and swaying to Madeleine Peyroux. Come 3pm, we'll get ready to collect her big sister and I'll be primed to answer to the age old question: Why is Winnie the Pooh called Pooh Bear when he's not a poo?Anyone?

OUR Tree

So last night as I was writing my post about our Christmas Tree a terrible knot formed in my stomach! Somethig wasn't right. The tree is gorgeous! Perfect in so many ways! Its everything I ever dreamed of and more! But that's just it. It's MY dream tree! It has everything I love on it and the design and creation is perfect! I know these things don't mean a lot to Rob and he is happy with whatever I am happy with but you know what? I want this to be OUR tree! The ornaments reflect us both and our lives but the 'design' of the tree is all me! I swore that I would NEVER and I mean NEVER put tinsel on my tree! Yes my house is covered in tinsel but never on the tree. I remember Rob mentioning once that he loved tinsel on trees! He also loves fresh candy canes hanging from the branches! So today I went and bought some tinsel and candy canes and covered OUR tree in everything that Rob loves!

Marriage is a beautiful thing. It allows 2 souls to still be complete individuals, and a beautiful team all at the same time! Our tree is our symbol of our individual souls coming together to create something beautiful. Tonight I feel happy! Its a shock each time I see the tree but then I smile knowing that its OUR tree and I LOVE it! Shinning and delicate ornaments, cheerful tinsel and sweet candy canes. The perfect combination of Sarah and Rob.

Hand-made cake stands

Hand-made cake stands

I love cake stands and have collected quite a few over the years, from pretty pastel pressed glass ones to scalloped edge china ones, all in a variety of sizes. I also made a decorative china cake stand a while back using a cup and plate.

For my Winter Wonderland dessert table this Christmas I wanted a pink one to put my bird cage Christmas cake on and two duck egg blue cake stands for my Gingerbread bird house and bakery tree. So when I saw these mini wooden pedestals from Lacoli and McAllister, I decided to make my own using a wooden candle stick holder and a small wooden bread board. Now I just need to finish my Christmas cake and start designing my gingerbread bird house!

Tools and Materials

How to, step by step
Making a cake stand - painting

Remove metal candle holder from top of wooden candle stick with a pair of pliers and discard. Carefully paint entire candle stick holder and chopping board in two coats of undercoat white paint, leaving an hour in between coats, and leave to dry. Then paint entire candle stick holder and chopping board in two coats of coloured paint, also leaving an hour in between coats, and leave to dry.

Making a cake stand - Gluing

With the chopping board placed upside down on a firm surface, use a pencil to mark the centre of the underside of the chopping board with a cross the width of the top of the candle holder. Apply a thin layer of wood glue in a circle over your cross. Place candle holder upside down and place over glued circle and press firmly down. Remove any excess glue with a damp cloth and leave to dry. Voila! A cake stand to match your decor.

Have a sweet day!
