Sometimes it feels as if the stuff I "have to do" takes priority over the people I should be spending more time with. Months pass before we finally make the effort to go and visit the grand aunt who only lives an hours drive away. When you do catch up, it's rewarding and you can't help but notice the simpatico that exists between your child and their elderly relative. Oldies don't rush little kids - there's time for storytelling, shared observations and garden walks. Lily also loves the morning tea fruitcake, 'smelly' lavender soaps and vases of artificial flowers she finds at Joan's place (pictured here together).
