Plucky Rubber Ducky

Fern's 1st birthday is rapidly approaching, and I am currently juggling Christmas preparations with the organisation of a very special 'rubber ducky' birthday party. I made my invites, and on the front of the invitation, I decided to take a photo of Fern sitting peacefully on the couch holding a rubber ducky. A smile would have been a bonus. Should have been soooo simple right? But I was forgetting the last time I tried to stage a posed photo of a baby. 46 photos later, I kinda gave up on my original idea:

- She tried to eat the duck.
- She was more interested in the Christmas Tree next to the couch and kept crawling onto the armrest to pull off the decorations.
- She stared sombrely down the lens, refusing to smile. For 35 shots.

My husband took pity and brought out the big guns -- party whistles and poppers -- to cajole Fern to turn that frown upside down! Here are some of the snaps that didn't make the cut:

... and the winner? Drum roll please..................

I loooove this shot, even though it is far from what I first envisaged. In fact, it may be one of my most favourite of her ever! Which one would you have picked?

3rd Day of Christmas

So what could be the 3rd thing that 2009 bought my way that I am grateful for.

The chance to cut my working hours down to 8 days per fortnight. Didn't know how we would cope money-wise or how I would cope doing 10 days in 8. I should not have worried. We have managed with less money and by re-scheduling and dividing the workload between my staff and I, probably as I should have been doing for a while now, we have had all bases covered.

Don't be afraid to take a chance, I arranged to do it on a 3 month trial basis first with the option of going back to full time if I felt I needed to. Sometimes all you need to do is admit you need a change and then have the courage to ask for it.

On The Second Day of Christmas

Further to yesterday's post, my strange bent on the 12 days of Christmas, here is the 2nd thing I am thankful for.

2009 gave me the chance to become closer to some great friends, started by sharing New Years Eve with them and finishing with celebrating New Years Eve this year too.

P & J, I have really appreciated the time we have spent together this year, the 4 of us always have a blast and your cooking P is to die for - glad we are going to get fit together in 2010 - then I can eat more of the cherry tart and not worry about my expanding waistline - LOL.

Finding time to spend with friends is always uplifting and well worth the effort in our busy lives.

10 days and counting....

I'm doing a Christmas Countdown special in store.

~ Recycled Christmas Cards ~

I am doing my big for the environment this year and recycling my old Christmas cards.

I pulled out all the cards I have received over the past few years that I have been saving (mainly to remember who sends them to me!!).

I then chopped them in half so that I was just left with the pretty picture on the front.

The back half went in the recycling bin.

And the front half has now been turned into a tag to attach to a present.

I might even stick some of the pretty pictures on some plain card stock and turn them into folded cards. The possibilities are endless and great for the environment.

~ Fab Mummy Find ~

I love a handbag - my husband believes I am obsessed - it is not shoes for me but bags.

When we recently moved it was boxes of bags we found that I had stored for a few years - I am not a hoarder but for some reason I keep my bags!

I even love nappy bags but at times get a little frustrated that once you put a few nappies, wipes and a change of clothes in there is no room for anything else.

My latest love is this ... my melobaby.

It is a small and compact wallet that fits all the essentials - nappies, disposal bags, wipes, change of clothes and it has a built in change mat. I can throw it in to any bag or even take it by itself and I am set! I can choose if I want to take one of my groovy nappy bags or just a normal handbag - how exciting to have choices again.

Check it out here.
