She talks about the hat. The fact that the brim is too small, especially for a baby. Suggests she could buy something more suitable downtown.
I could gently humour her. Or shrug it off. Instead I opt for the long-winded explanation about how the detour was unplanned. That I couldn't find another one. That we were sitting in the shade.
It would have been great if she'd just said, "I like the photo - the girls are growing up.." or better yet, "I think a hamster would rock that hat!"
Then we'd have something to talk about.
